Re: Mega Man Lives!

Megaman 3 beat!

Still an awesome game.
There are a couple slight differences that I’ve noticed compared to the nes original. For whatever reason, if you’re running & then hit the opposite direction on the D-pad, Megaman pauses in his tracks for a moment instead of just instantly turning around. Never encountered this before.
Also, using the shoulder buttons to swap weapons works fine unless you’re already shooting another weapon. It wants to lock up at that point.

I swapped out controllers, but the pause button is garbage on this one too. It sucks when you’re fighting just to get into the pause menu to use an E-tank.

The only other thing I’ve noticed is that when I have to revisit some levels & fight the MM2 bosses, it didn’t seem as tedious this time. The levels actually seemed pretty short. Before I always used to think it was a slog, having to redo these levels before I could take on Wily.

Oh yeah, and pretty sure Dr. Light’s dialogue is slightly different in the original. As I remember it, he says, “Wily stole Gamma!” Not, “Wily... that Wily stole Gamma!”

Anyway, that’s all for now. I think before I finish off 3, I’m going to dig out an old PS1 controller of mine & try that. These PS2 controllers are kinda wrecking the experience.

EDIT:
Just checked a vid of the NES game & Dr. Light’s dialogue is confirmed different than in the Anniversary edition. Don’t know why they changed it.

Re: Mega Man Lives!

Right now it’s humbling to be getting my ass kicked at games I used to have mastered. The PS2 controllers are a big part of that problem for sure, but I can’t blame it all on the controllers (note- this is what happens after years of winding the cord around the controller).
Oh and about controllers- the Anniversary Collection won’t let me use a PS1 controller. No, no, no, it wants a dual shock analog PS2
controller plugged in, so so much for that. I am seriously tempted to order a wireless PS2 controller at this point.

SPECIAL NOTE: THE LADDER CONSPIRACY!

I was on a quest to find out why I couldn’t stop at the top of ladders in MM1 & MM2 with Megaman’s torso hunched over the edge. I swore that I remembered doing that at this one particular spot all the time in MM2. But none of the ported versions of it have it. Not even buying an original MM2 NES cartridge solved it. I then wondered if maybe there were different versions of the cartridge put out? I don’t know. It’s crazy & I can’t believe I would remember something so distinctly that was never there.

BUT THEN I WAS ABLE TO DO IT IN MEGAMAN 3 LAST NIGHT!!

So is it possible I somehow mixed up my memory of the ladder trick with that spot in MM2?
