Justice League

Loved it. Honestly loved it. Screw the Rotten Tomatoes scores, BvS deserved it, this one does not. Two post credits scenes, one fan service, one sequel set up. I liked the whole cast. Lots of Easter Eggs. Cavill's lip looked weird in a couple of shots, but only if you were looking for it. If you love the DC characters you'll enjoy it. I hope WB stays the course after this, bit I'm not confident in them.

I haven't seen it yet (I'll wait for home release), but one thing I'm curious about is how coherent is it?

Like, does the story suffer for cramming so many faces into it more or less unannounced?

One thing Marvel did really right with the Avengers was the fact they could hit the ground running since the non-comic nerd viewer (assuming they followed the MCU) could be like "ok, that's Iron Man, I know his deal, okay that's Loki, he's the bad guy", and it could get going on it's own narrative without much setup.

Yeah, I've been hearing pretty positive buzz about it, from people that disliked or eviscerated BvS.

I've previously stated that I wasn't going to see it. That hasn't changed...much. I mean, with people noting that, while flawed, it's not terrible, I'll admit to some curiosity. But just like with the comics themselves, I'm a little tired of giving DC a fair shot, and in return I get mediocrity at best, or a truckload of crap at worst, while the people behind it are seemingly oblivious to their own idiocy. Then I decide to largely disregard their next over-hyped venture, and I hear all this "it's sooooo good! It's awesome!" and so forth.

I'll take the Nostalgia Critic's word over someone who claims without irony that BvS was a "masterpiece", but my experience leaves me with far too much skepticism. Then again, I've considered that Wonder Woman may not've gained the critical reception it did had the previous two DC film entries had been so lackluster.

So, yeah...I saw it today. My brother (who's still in the process of moving...it's a bit complicated, so I'll digress) texted me this morning, and I eventually decided that, okay, I'll give this a shot.

It wasn't BvS terrible, either. Heck, I'd probably put it above or on par with the weaker Marvel films. Definitely one of my favorite parts was Diana interrupting that bombing, from how she literally bursts into the room, to the entire sequence of bullet deflection. THAT was slick as Hell.

The cast was good (though I had no qualms over Affleck or Gadot), and the tone was like a 180 from most of the previous DC flicks. The humor and lightened mood didn't feel forced, and sweet lordy, COLOR! ACTUAL FREAKIN' COLOR!

Though I did have some mixed feelings about Aquaman and Flash...they weren't bad, just...I guess these portrayals of these characters take some getting used to compared to others? Mamoa's Arthur seemed at sometimes a hardass like JL/U, and other times a grittier take on Brave and the Bold (what with his exuberance for battle).

Then the big return...this is the Superman we've been needing, and haven't got outside the Supergirl Season 2 premiere. It must've been Whedon's influence, because Cavill was actually EMOTING! The yellow on his costume seemed whiter than before, though (come to think of it, where was his costume kept all this time?). Also, they did not cover the whole "Clark Kent is back and so is Superman" issue AT ALL. That's...kind of a plot hole they wrote themselves into. Would've made more sense if they'd noted Kent was missing instead of dead at the end of BvS, but...

All in all, it wasn't a perfect film, but it manages to be fun and entertaining enough that you can overlook some of the flaws (much like Marvel's films).

I may vlog about this later. I don't know. I'd previously considered telling my bro, who I always suspected would ask me even though I mentioned to him months back I had no desire to see the movie, that I'd only do it if we recorded a blog about it. The humor there is that he doesn't know I have a review show. No one in my family does.
