Re: Toys R Us files chapter 11
You're not wrong, but here's the thing...
They've been kinda saying that since the 1980s. When the Ninja Turtles came out, companies thought that it was a joke, because "kids don't care about action figures anymore. They want video games." This was 1988. And every time that the toy market is about to slump, something comes out and saves it. Turtles in 88. Power Rangers in 93. Tamagochis in '97s, Beyblades in 03, the Transformers again in '07... You get the idea.
Problem is that we've been waiting for that next burst of toys to come out and boom the toy industry again.

I see your point, but none of those other booms happened in a post-smartphone era where every kid is glued to a mobile device. That's where I felt like we hit a tipping point. Wanna guess what my nephew did the whole time we were at our family Xmas gathering?

Re: Toys R Us files chapter 11
Don't need to guess... Because I already know.
The trick I think is to incorporate the toys into the electronics. Like Amiibos or Skylanders. But from here on out... The toys will have to be ancillary to the media. It can still work, but they HAVE to chance things up drastically.

Re: Toys R Us files chapter 11
Amiibos seem to still be doing fairly well but from what Ive read, it seems the other similiar style games are ending or already done. Disney Infinity was cancelled and Lego Dimensions is going away. As far as I know, Skylanders is holding on but Ive heard nothing on any newer versions coming out.
Also, I know not in the same category as the above, but what was the point of those TLK Allspark Tech figures with the cube and USB cord? My Wally was choked with those and are on post holiday clearance.

Re: Toys R Us files chapter 11
I know. I could have used a more popular reference than Skylanders or Amiibos, but I'm old and out of touch with what these young'uns are doing these days, with their playing Digimon Gos and their Tamagotchis.
