So...SNES Classic...
Anyone else think it's going to be a repeat of the NES Classic? I thought I had it set with a Walmart.com pre-order until it was cancelled. Good start there...

Re: So...SNES Classic...
The preorder thing was Wal-Mart's fuckup. Can't hold that on Nintendo.
They have said they will make significantly more, but I still highly doubt it will be enough. Especially if they don't impose some kind of "2 per customer" limit to slow down the scalpers. They also need to work with eBay to take down the preorder scalping, because that's where the problem starts. You should not be able to sell something you don't have in hand, or at least a confirmed order for.

Oh I wasn't blaming Nintendo. Just saying it wasn't a good omen to start out with. :)

Re: So...SNES Classic...
Managed to pick up an SNES Classic at Walmart tonight. Seems so far that Nintendo is true to their word about being more available. The local Wally had 39 SNESC units tonight compared to only 6 NESC units last September.

Online didn't prove fruitful for some at Wal-Mart.com last night for those that pre-ordered (and didn't get mass cancelled). Around midnight or close to it, alot were getting backorder notices on their SNESC pre-orders.
Surprisingly, I heard some Wal-Marts around here had stock last as late as midday today. Hope you find one without much headache Trium. :)

Re: So...SNES Classic...
I'm honestly not super worried about it. I have most of the games on there that I care about as actual SNES carts, including Mario RPG. It's more of an interesting collection piece. If I get one, great. If not, whatever.

Re: So...SNES Classic...
I've been playing some of the SNES Classic for a while now and I've come to the realization that either I have gotten severly rusty at games or just suck at them more than I remember. I CANNOT beat the first level of Star Fox. :lol
But I will say that some of these games did not age well. On an HDTV, Donkey Kong Country looks like blurry !@#$ now. But I changed the aspect setting on the SNESC to counter that a bit. First thing I did though when I hooked it up was play Super Castlevania IV. I've been wanting to play this game for a long time and it does not disappoint. The soundtrack on this game is awesome.
The mix of games is good but in talking to BR there are definitely some gaps especially compared to the regular NESC. The biggest glaring oversight is the lack of any beat em style game. The NESC had Double Dragon II but the SNESC doesn't have anything like that. I know we have Street Fighter but I'm talking a level by level monotonous fun style beat em up not just a vs. game. They already have some Capcom games, I don't think it would have been too much to ask for at least Final Fight to have been included too.
Speaking of Street Fighter though, I was told the Japanese SNESC has Super Street Fighter II with Fei Long, Cammy, Dee Jay, and THawk while the US version had SF II Turbo. Any SF II game is decent but I wish they had gone all the way with the best version available.

Re: So...SNES Classic...
Got one the other day. The list is pretty curated, but the omission of Final Fight is justified, because the SNES port of that game is a dumpster fire. Between the lack of Guy and the censorship, along with the fact it's just... not a good port makes it an easy pass. I can't really think of a good Beat'em Up that had a really good SNES version (the FF sequels are okay). The Genesis was superior here with Streets of Rage (2, especially) by far. ARCADE Final Fight, different story.
The SNES port of Knights of the Round (also Capcom) was pretty decent though.
But on the whole IMO any game that is an Arcade port, unless it's substantially different (like NES Double Dragon), shouldn't be on these systems at all. They're very much a product of their time, now you can get arcade perfect emulation easily (PSN and XBL are loaded with these, even the Switch has SNK support). Games specifically made for the system shine much brighter.
Pixel perfect mode helps with the resolution issues.. i've found that makes it look pretty good on my bedroom tv, which is admittedly only 720p.
It hits most of my wanted list though - Chrono Trigger and Illusion of Gaia are the two biggest omissions to me, but it got a lot of other must haves in Castlevania IV, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, and the two Mario World games.

Ok you make a good point on Final Fight. Wasn't aware of the censorship but I did forget about Guy being cut from it. I can think of a few more beat em ups that were pretty decent on the SNES but licensing might have made these impossible to add: Turtles in Time, Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage, and even MMPR/MMPR movie were pretty fun.
