Fixing Legends Powerglide
I recently picked up a few Legends-class figures, which isn't something I had ever gotten into before. They're really great figures, reminding me of some of my favorite BW-era Basic figures, but even better. For the most part, I'm very pleased with them, except one: Powerglide. He's a great figure overall, but his god damn legs would not stay together in vehicle mode.
After a bunch of tinkering, the problem really only comes down to the block of plastic on the left leg that's supposed to squeeze into a recess on the right leg, and hold itself there. Unfortunately, it just pushes itself back out. I mostly fixed this by just taking my plastic nippers and cutting off the smaller side of it, and filing down the remaining part a bit. They don't pop apart anymore, but they don't really keep the tight seam I want either.
So, here's what I'm thinking:
1. Cut away that !@#$ block of plastic entirely
2. Fill in the hollow spaces in the legs with epoxy putty
3. Drill out a small recess on each leg
4. Glue magnets into the recesses to hold the legs together
Only hang up is, I need magnets strong enough to do the job, but not pull the legs together while in bot mode. I have neodymium magnets, but those are pretty aggressive about pulling toward each other.
The other thing I could do is create my own peg and hole system with either brass wire or plastic rods.
Anybody else have this problem?
Am I insane for trying so hard to fix this?

Re: Fixing Legends Powerglide
I would question that sanity... But I understand it. I spent waaaaay too long on obsessing over the right paint shade for TM Hot Rod's unpainted crest on his forehead.

Re: Fixing Legends Powerglide
I've actually considered a number of small cosmetic upgrades to these legends figures. Foremost among them would be repainting all the fugly "gold" plastic parts on Hot Rod, and doing a bunch of work on his axe like filling in the hollow spaces and painting it so the blade and handle are different colors.

I've done that too. Actually, I've gone over and over with Rodimus quite a bit, even getting one of those Shapeways spoiler sets for him. He's actually one of my favorite Legends toys. I've drawn him waaaaay too many times.

Re: Fixing Legends Powerglide
If only you could actually put the axe on his back. That's a doable mod though. Drill a hole in his back, add a peg to the axe maybe with a metal pin in it for strength... done. Mystery why it doesn't just come that way.

Re: Fixing Legends Powerglide
Actually, the thing I got from Shapeways? No modding needed. It's just a new axe/spoiler.
Here's two of the better ones. (The first one I can personally confirm is actually pretty great.)
Spoiler 1
Spoiler 2
Spoiler 3

Re: Fixing Legends Powerglide
Where's the fun in that? No gluing yourself to the part? No cutting yourself with hobby knives? No getting your cat stoned on lacquer fumes?
