YJ S3 and live-action Titans on DC's own streamimg service

quote:

Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment today announced that executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are teaming up for the all-new live-action drama series “Titans,” which will debut in 2018. Additionally, Warner Bros. Animation’s “Young Justice: Outsiders,” the highly anticipated third season of the popular “Young Justice” series, is also ramping up for its first mission next year.

Both fan-driven series are in early stages of production and will air exclusively on a DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service in 2018. Operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks Group, the new digital service will deliver an immersive experience designed just for DC fans.

“Titans” follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. “Titans” is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.

“Titans” will be written by Akiva Goldsman (“Star Trek: Discovery,” “Underground”), Geoff Johns (President & Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment; “The Flash,” “Arrow”) and Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”). Goldsman, Johns, Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”) are executive producers of the series from Weed Road Pictures and Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

In “Young Justice: Outsiders,” the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy. Equally praised by critics and viewers for its impressive visuals and rich storytelling, “Young Justice” reached more than 25 million unique viewers in each of its two seasons on Cartoon Network. This passionate fan support set the stage for the new third season.

Sam Register (“Teen Titans Go!,” “Justice League Action”) is executive producer of “Young Justice.” Brandon Vietti (“Batman: Under the Red Hood,” “Superman Doomsday”) and Greg Weisman (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Gargoyles”) are producers of the series, produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Emmy Award winner Phil Bourassa (“Young Justice,” “Justice League Dark,” “Teen Titans: The Judas Contract”) serves as the series’ art director.

Another streaming service. I assume we'll have to pay. First CBS with Trek, now this. Where will it end and how much will the market support? It will be interesting to see what DC puts on this service and how that will affect what's already streaming from them on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.

As suggested at the Outhouse, they could let whatever deal they have with those services expire, then throw all their past programming up there. I mean, I'd be interested in the Ruby-Spears Superman and maybe finally checking out the final few seasons of Smallville I ignored.

But as much as I'm excited for and want to support another season of YJ, it'll depend on how much they want.

Every company that spins up their own streaming service just for their own library can go !@#$ themselves. For one thing, people aren't going to pay $8-10/mo. for access to just your stuff.

Second, streaming is not an easy thing to do well. Funimation tried this, and their streams skipped all the time and their player was garbage. Now they pushed all their simulcast stuff over to Crunchyroll. Amazon's streaming service is the refuge of last resort after checking Netflix and Hulu. They certainly have the infrastructure but their player sucks.

Third, people are damn sick of having to check multiple sources to find the TV show or movie they're looking for. Set top boxes are having to implement search engines across all the various services to try and alleviate the problem. It's ridiculous.

Frankly, I think the market is already pushing back, and CBS and DC are going to learn the hard way.

Yeeeeaaahhh... Pretty much.

I wouldn't mind watching Season Three of Young Justice... But unless it's got's some plans like Crunchyroll (like free with advertisements or some !@#$, or pay for no ads)... Then !@#$ it.

I would say that I'd wait for the DVD...but I don't know how much longer that's going to last.

At this point, gaming consoles haven't figured out that "exclusive content" only artificially narrows the market and exposure, I don't expect streaming services will tumble to the fact any time soon.

Except there's only 3 companies making game consoles, and only one of them (Nintendo) has a considerable amount of first party exclusives. If we were only talking Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, I wouldn't be too pissed off. You already see people spitting fire over CBS All Access. CW pulled all their !@#$ off Hulu last year, and I just don't watch it anymore. I'll see Flash season 3 when it hits Netflix on a year delay.

At least with the CW, their app is free. You just gotta sit through commercials, just like the shows.

I've never had issues streaming Vixen on CW Seed. Hopefully this new DC service will use the same technology.

CW Seed, that's another app of theirs that's free as well. (I forgot about that one!)

Can watch all of Forever and Constantine on it.

The one thing the CW app isn't on is PS4, which is where I do all my streaming. Wonder what kind of pissing match they got into with Sony to cause that.
