Thor: RAGNAROK

Teaser trailer here

Seriously, this gives me more of a GotG vibe than anything else, which could be interesting. Definitely led with the shocking swerve, though.

The GotG2 trailer and the JL trailer secretly mated and created this, but I like it. I guess rock/pop songs in superhero trailers is going to be a thing now, but I loved this choice.

Cate Blanchett sure looks great. So, who's on board with Hela being Thanos' love interest n the MCU?

I saw this trailer this morning shortly after it came out and I love it! :D Good choice for a song, good scenes and lots of good characters.

It was nice to see the Planet Hulk aspect of it shown a lot...I just hope they explain how Hulk got from the Quinjet to Sakaar in the movie (and hopefully it's a good explanation; not "He's just here; accept it".).

Surprised to see them show Thor's hammer get broken...thought that would be more of a surprise reveal in the movie (though it makes sense...if he's going to fight the Hulk; he would normally call his hammer...so they had to start out showing why he doesn't have it anymore).

I've got to admit: Hela looks hella-sexy! Damn; they made her look good! :drool I never really though Cate Blanchett was sexy before; but in the right make-up...wow!

I'm hoping that the Grandmaster will be eccentric and weird like the Collector...both of them are elders of the Universe and you've got to make Jeff Goldblum show off his weirdness on film; especially dressed like that! :lol

Looking forward to this movie a lot! It should be good; especially since Doctor Strange will be joining it too and it'll probably lead into Infinity War a lot as well. emoticon

I loved everything about the trailer including the Led Zepplin "Immigrant Song". The whole trailer reminded me of that old Flash Gordon movie. Just needs a 70s rock band to give it a Power Ballad style theme. emoticon

Yeah, I'm digging it. I am hoping to see how Hulk gets to Sakaar myself - perhaps this is a testing ground for a Hulk standalone and we'll get a prequel leading up to this?

Ironically my biggest concern with this movie is Jeff Goldblum.

...wait, wait, put down the torches and pitchforks and let me finish :lol

I love him as much as everyone else, but my big fear is I see him and go "Oh, Jeff Goldblum is awesome!" Most of the other Marvel movies either had lesser knowns, former knowns (RDJ before IM revived his career), or were burred under so much makeup (Hopkins as Odin, Del Torro's Collector) as to not be easily recognizable. I just see Jeff Goldblum here. Granted, he's an awesome actor and I'm sure it'll be great, but that's my one tiny concern emoticon

Waaaaay back when The Avengers came out I latched onto the line in the post credit Thanos scene: "To fight them is to court Death (the Mad Titan looks to the camera and smiles)", and said that was gonna lead into IW and him literally doing that. Bringing a Goddess of Death into this seems to be a logical way to do that and unify them all as one singular "Death" character for the MCU.

The only thing off about it was saying Hulk was a friend "from work". That just seemed...weird coming from Thor.

Otherwise, pretty good.

Re: Thor: RAGNAROK

So, finally saw this. I honestly think this was one of the funniest Marvel movies out there, easily competing with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man in that respect.

By the end, Hela is "dead", but we don't see the body and Loki survived falling off Asgard into outer space, so it's entirely possible she might survive in a nerfed form to appear later. However, the Warriors Three are pretty obviously toast. Apparently Sif's actress couldn't make shooting, so she was banished offscreen for getting too close to realizing "Odin" was Loki, like Heimdall.

The movie is *insanely* quotable, and I appreciate its ability to manage the kind of mood whiplash it has between zany antics and entirely serious moments like when Odin dies in Norway, and Thor and Loki both reciting the litany of Valhalla afterwards on Sakaar.

Overall, by far my favorite Thor movie, even if the stinger is clearly an Infinity War setup.

Also, an answer to that age old question about the gauntlet in Odin's vault. ("Fake!")

Re: Thor: RAGNAROK

I saw this with my bro the same day as Justice League.

It was definitely fun, though maybe they got too heavy with the comedy (the director's worked on comedic stuff in the past, like Flight of the Concords and the Team Thor shorts). I mean, I hear complaining all the time about how "Marvel's too light, too jokey", but I think this movie comes the closest to actually fitting that description.

Didn't hear any dialogue about Sif, but maybe I missed it.

As for Hela...I don't know if she'd return, changed or not. They kept talking about how her power was tied to Asgard, so I doubt it. But maybe she could return heavily depowered or something.

But it wasn't until maybe a few days ago that I realized, with Mjolnir shattered like a dime-store china cup, we may not get an epic scene of Cap lifting it to smack Thanos. I'm not even a big Cap or Avengers fan, but I want to freakin' see that! The only way is if somewhere along the way, Dr. Strange repairs the hammer (though, I was wondering if they'd do that in Ragnorok, mirroring a scene from the end of Straczynski's run where it's tied to Thor's life force.
