THAT was the product placement that stood out to you? O_O Dairy Queen stood out SO badly at the start of the film...it was like they just threw in a completely random, perfectly clear shot of a Dairy Queen from the 80's for no reason at all! (Of course it came up later, in present time, to show where Ego's seed was, but that just gave them an excuse to show the same Dairy Queen product placement TWICE in the film)!

Still doesn't beat a certain other recent film's fixation on pastries.

I don't think it was explicitly said, but more implied. He said that he went back to Earth 3 times to see her, and if he went back a 4th time, he'd never go home (i.e. back to his "body"). Since he said he'd die after a while of not being connected back to his "body"/planet; and he said he loved Meredith, the only option to save himself was to put a tumor in her head so she died (and he'd never have to go back to Earth; to a Earth without Meredith as he said).

Yeah, they really should've explained that better. As much as he said he loved her, he might've done it so it'd be easier to get his kid. He did have a whole lot of other lovers, after all.

I might be one of the few people who doesn't really know who Adam Warlock is. I've seen YouTube videos that explain who he is in the comics and such; but I never read any comics with him in it.

I think in the first GotG flick, his egg or something is supposedly in the Collector's place. At least, that's what my brother said.

As for what I thought: it was a lot of fun, and still had a lot of heart behind it. Had a lot in common with the first one, but not in a bad way. The rehashing of Groot pausing when Drax is looking at him seemed out of place, but still funny.

I did think it was odd that the Reavers didn't want to kill Groot, just dress him up and pour booze on him and kick him around. I was totally expecting a tiny drunk going agro on them all. But...then they just let him walk around freely...like to the cage where his furry pal is being kept.

And that song "cloned" from Quill's tape...if that's from Vol. 2, then PLOT HOLE! He didn't realize he had that until he already left the Reavers! MOVIE RUINED!

Oh yeah, and rot in Hell, Ego! You made Baby Groot cry. Then I cried. Then Maggie laughed. She's such a little trooper...!

It dawned on me a little bit ago...the movie started in 1980, then jumps 34 years. That'd mean these events take place in 2014, the same year the first GotG came out. So, perhaps explaining why Groot is still fun-sized, not a lot of time has actually passed between the two movies.

Well, if I understood it right; he was doing the other lovers specifically to get a child who could use the light (i.e his powers); but none of them worked. He actually fell in love with Meredith, however, and had a child with her who was capable of using the light; but Yondu took the child away once he learned what Ego did to the other kids. I guess Ego was a bit lazy in the 'father' department, as he had Yondu get his kid for him instead.

A lot of people thought that originally, but in the end it was not Adam's cocoon (the director James Gunn confirmed this). Adam's true cocoon is shown at the end of the 2nd film.

It was; the character is called Mainframe.

Yeah, Kevin Feige and James Gunn explained that this took place a few months after the first Guardians movie. Meaning Age of Ultron and Civil War hadn't happened yet. In fact, Thor: The Dark World only happened a little bit ago. And at the end, where Groot's a teenager, that's now up to modern day.

Saw it today. There were a few points early on where a couple of the jokes fell a little flat (the fruit one especially), but on the whole I really enjoyed it. That third act though, wow. Payoff was totally worth it.

That's my only issue with the film: It creates a plothole now.

Because of the time when this takes place, Civil War hasn't happened yet (as you said).

That being the case, Stan Lee's comment about working as a FedEx worker (i.e. his cameo in Civil War) hasn't happened yet.

So...is Stan Lee a time-traveler too? I mean that's possible, to explain his "Captain America: The First Avenger" cameo...but at the same time, he'd have to be more than just a "human informant" for the Watchers then. I mean he dimension-hops, too...

Really makes the whole thing with Stan's "role" in the MCU (and other movies outside of it) confusing now... :(

Not... Really that much. Apparently I've heard Stan's character's name is Uatu.

Yeah, I've heard that, too. That Stan is a Watcher, and that explains his appearance across time, space, and studios. I was actually thinking he'd taken human form, was chatting it up with the other Watchers until they got bored. So...maybe he's stuck in Stan Lee form for the immediate future.

And besides... Maybe if Marvel and Fox are playing nice now, maybe he's referring to the time he was Willie Lumpkins in the 05-07 Fantastic Four movies?

Except at the wedding in Rise of the Silver Surfer he explicitly said his name was Stan Lee.

In case anyone (like me) was wondering, Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Watchers fall into the same "joint custody" category as Quicksilver, so no FF deal has been made with Fox.
