Re: ....and Netflix will form the head
So, Legendary Defender came out yesterday.
I've already watched it all twice.
it's fantastic. The animation is top-notch, the cast is great, the characters are fun and it's fascinating to watch the story unfold.
You should all sign up for Netflix and see this. ;)

I am 5 episodes into it. I do like it so far. However some of the attempts of humour at a bit hit and miss for me.

Re: ....and Netflix will form the head
I got the Netflix trial solely to watch it. It is now quite a few hours later, I've watched the entire season, AND I NEED MORE.

Watched this. It's amazing, and I recommended it to pretty much everyone. The cast is a joy, the main villains are competent and imposing, there's some honest to goodness *surprises* that, looking back, are foreshadowed from the first !@#$ episode but quietly enough I'm not sure you'd notice them without knowing the twist ahead of time.
My only objection is that it's only 13 episodes because that's not enough.
That said, Netflix has to have greenlit a season 2. There's no way they'd end it where they did if they hadn't. :lol

Re: ....and Netflix will form the head
Just got through all the episodes yesterday afternoon. I was taking my time, ok! :P. But this is definitely the strongest of all the different Voltron TV series. The animation is awesome, the writing is strong, and the development is there too. There are some changes from the original mythos but the writing is so well done it's hard to complain or nitpick about any of said changes. I love the serialized story too instead of episode after episode of Robeast, Form Voltron, Win the Day, Rinse, and Repeat. Also love the cast (even though Coran took some getting used too). Surprised me that some of the VAs were from Walking Dead.
And I have to echo what MD said. GIMMIE MORE!!!! I know Netflix said "all episodes" but I have to agree with what BR said in the shout, the end felt more like a "mid season" finale than a full season one. But either way, they better greenlight more. If they feel compelled enough to do more King Julien then Voltron better be on that renewal list too.

Re: ....and Netflix will form the head
Watched the whole season a while back & forgot to comment.
So every other Voltron show can be burned in a steel drum, because this, for me, is the definitive version of Voltron. And by definitive, I mean it's the only version of Voltron that ever captured my interest & hooked me so hard, that I near died when the credits to the last episode played. There's more eps on the way- there must be!
This series has really endeared the pilots & characters to me. Even episodes where they were without their lions were great. And none of it feels like filler. Absolutely loving this show!
One thing though- I see a ton of people clamoring to have the original music rammed into the show. I've even seen a few fan edits that do this- especially for the big combination sequence.
It's ass. The old music might be awesome for longtime fans that are riding on a big wave of nostalgia. But that music is so out of place in the new show, doesn't jibe with the new ost at all, & perhaps most importantly- it feels seriously dated. The new music is great & I hope the developers have the confidence in it to not give into pressure from nostalgic fanboys.

I have to admit, I was one of those fanboys. The original Voltron theme was one of my favorite tunes of the 80s and I loved how energetic it was. But upon reflection, I have to agree with you on being out of place. This Voltron took what came before, put it away, and started fresh. To put in the original theme would be defeating the purpose of starting anew.

Re: ....and Netflix will form the head
I'm not so much wanting the old theme song in there, but a new take on it. I guess like... Well, like Jonny Quest. The old theme song was so damn cool, so when they made the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest in the 90s, they made a new version of it that was modrenized and still fit.
I guess I'd like that.
I mean, when you have such an iconic theme song, you need to use it or come up with something as iconic.

I love tat Zarkon and Hagar are credible, powerful threats. Also like not having them combine in every episode, makes more room for story and character development and breaks up the monotony of the old show's formula. Wonder if/when they'll bring in Lotor.

Yeah I'd be all for this. I will say that the current music for their combination sequence isn't memorable, because I can't remember it. But the old music really doesn't fit there either. I'd prefer they come up with something new & iconic instead of a simple modernizing of the old tune.
It's kind of like the giant emblem on the chest of the original Voltron. That seems like a super important detail that you would think any remake would include in there somewhere. But alas, the new Voltron abandoned that look for something unique & I think the new look is every bit as iconic as the old. (Personally I think the new look is superior in every way, but that's just me).
I never really followed any version of the old shows. Did they really form Voltron every ep?
