Quite the opposite actually. It would not surprise me if they say oh look Ms Corinth is actually Betsy Ross' ancestor and she's going to join the witnesses fight evil...yea...

Speaking of sloppy writing, where did the Mills' father sub-plot get to?

Other than Jenny saying she's known for longer than Abbey, not yet. It'll probably come up later.

I notice Joe Corbin and Agent Reynolds have been added to the main cast because heaven forbid if we have strong female leads that have no one to have romantic tension with!

Actually, one of the things that's surprised me about this show is that, until Agent Reynolds, I don't think Abbey's love-life has ever been given focus. I don't recall her making out with anyone, that teased relationship with whosits from last season never went anywhere, and they never opened a scene with her putting her bra back on while getting out of some guy's bed. It's quite refreshing, if you ask me.

At least with Abbey, they don't seem to be (at present) making much out of her old romance with Reynolds. It has come up in conversation, and they might lead it into some rekindling, but so far, not much.

Quite the twist, I must say, with that crook's henchwoman being FBI. Worked very well; unexpected, but not feeling contrived.

Anyone else notice what they did with the previous episode, that "resolved" the Kindred?

They pretty much did the same thing Bugs Bunny did in one of his face-offs with the Tasmanian Devil. All it needed to end on was Ichabod saying, "They say, Leftenant, that all the world loves a lover. However, I believe this would certainly qualify as a valid exception."

Bugs Bunny? I think you mean they "Bride-of-Franksensteined" him. Then the Hidden One made them go all explodey, so there was really no point.

So much for Miss Corinth. No love for poor Ichy.

So if I'm interpreting this correctly, Abbie's soul has been immediately reincarnated into someone else and Ichabod is now the head of Sleepy Hollow's version of the BPRD as appointed by President Washington 227 years ago?

Vaya con dios, Leftenant. Guess Nicole didn't want to renew her contract?

No amount of posturing by Peter Mensah could turn the Hidden One into anything but a generic villain.

I feel bad for Jenny but I won't miss Joe.

The Horseman's back!

So daddy Mills knew everything? The whole time? Whu...?

Hate to say it, but Katrina was more interesting than Pandora.

This is the third show I've watched this week with a major character death.

This is also the third season finale I've watched with a Clancy Brown appearance. Everything is better with Clancy.

Well, if by some miracle it gets picked up for another season it will be an interesting new direction, but it might be too little, too late.

On the one hand, I wouldn't blame Ms. Beharie for jumping ship. My brother gave up after she started drawing that emblem in blood. On the other hand...I feel the same way as I did in the second season of Code Geass and when Shizune's soul was sucked in Naruto: Shippuden..."Don't kill her! She's CUTE!!!"

Pandora and the Hidden One weren't terribly interesting. I stuck with the show as long as I have because of Ichabod's chemistry with Abbie. Now that's gone. And I really didn't like the hints that Crane's love for Abbie was romantic. I mean, maybe that's not what they were going for, but felt like it was. Because you can't have two leads on a show that don't knock boots.

I was totally expecting Betsy Ross to be Crane's new love interest, warping back to present day. But her arc in the last couple eps got so confusing...yikes.

Joe wasn't bad, but I wasn't exactly torn up when he died. It was pretty sad, but...well, he wasn't hot.

Ezra Mills' knowledge of the supernatural was terribly convenient.

I don't know if I'll be coming back if there's a season 4. Maybe out of habit...like with Gotham.

We've got 10 episodes of the show sitting on our DVR that I'm 90% sure will never be watched...

In hindsight, I think season 1 was just lightning in a bottle and it was inevitable that it was going to crap-out. Surprised it lasted this long honestly.

And yet it's Metacritic rating is in the green (according to my TWC grid info).

By Bethonie Butler, The Washington Post

Published: April 15, 2016, 5:58 AM

“Sleepy Hollow” angered many fans April 8 when the Fox show killed off one half of its lead duo during its third season finale.

The show’s two main stars are Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane and Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills, who together are known as the Witnesses. Amid on ongoing conversations about the frequent deaths of minority characters, Beharie, a black woman, had her character killed in a way that furthers the storyline of her white male counterpart.

Fans have cited the chemistry between Mison and Beharie as a major draw to watching the Fox show. And Beharie’s role on the show was seen as an important one — so much so that Viola Davis referenced the actress during her celebrated speech at the Emmy Awards last year, the one in which she declared “you cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”

On April 8 and throughout the weekend, fans tweeted their disappointment.

Among those tweeting was Orlando Jones, who left the show ahead of its third season: “‘The white male lead should totally sacrifice his life to protect the dark skinned black girl’ said no development executive EVER.”

Over at Vulture, writer Nicole Perkins details the show’s overall derailment:

“The first season of ‘Sleepy Hollow’ was charming, fun, and special. It took a familiar story from American literature and gave it a fantastical twist, complete with one of the most diverse casts on air. The chemistry between the two leads, Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison as Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane, was remarkable and undeniable. Then season two happened. Everything that attracted fans to the show was dismantled in a series of perplexing creative choices. And now, at the conclusion of season three, Abbie was killed off in one of the most unsatisfactory goodbyes in recent memory.”

Perkins also notes that Beharie’s departure is the latest in a string of decisions that have caused fans to question the show’s treatment of minority characters. Jones reportedly saw significantly decreased screen time before he was asked to leave.

“I don’t think Captain Irving is coming back,” Jones said in a fan Q&A on his YouTube channel, referencing his character, Frank Irving. “And what led to me leaving is they changed the show. It’s a different show.”

Beharie also saw less screen time in Season 2, as the show pursued a storyline focused on Mison’s character and his family. In an Instagram post that was later deleted, Beharie said she was not invited to do audio commentary for the show’s Season 2 DVD. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beharie had been unhappy and trying to leave the show for some time.

Days after the controversial finale, fans are still tweeting about the show, with hashtags such as #iamabbiemills and #abbiemillsdeservesbetter. The latter first surfaced during the show’s second season as some viewers felt Beharie was being underutilized.

“Sleepy Hollow” has not yet been renewed for a fourth season, though Fox says it’s still possible. Whether fans will return remains to be seen.

So far, Fox has not responded to questions about minority characters on the show, but did release a joint statement with the show’s executive producers after the finale:

“The finale featuring the tragic death of Abbie Mills was a very dramatic ending and a bold move for the show, but ‘Sleepy Hollow’ has always been known for its shocking finales. We feel we provided a wonderfully poignant conclusion for Abbie and showed some of the best moments between the Witnesses that we’ve seen on-screen. We thank Nicole Beharie for bringing Abbie and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ to life. We are currently discussing Season 4, and should the series be picked up for another season, we have some exciting scenarios and new avenues we want to explore.”
