So, I noticed recently that, for some reason, my computer doesn't recognize my smartphone or digital camera via USB. Oh, I get that "connect" or "disconnect" sounds, but no windows pop up, and they don't show up when I look for them. Yet my external drive still pops up just fine. I'm curious if it has anything to do with getting my comp to recognize a internal-made-external drive from my Mom's old computer, but I dunno. Anyway, I open the Hardware Diagnostics Tool, and it tells me I have four alerts, one each related to Drives E, F, etc., and problems therein. The solution I read is to uninstall, then reinstall. Well, that uninstall worked fine enough...it's the REINSTALL that's something of a hassle. Clicking "Reinstall" in Diagnostics does brings up a little window, I click Update and it says it's already updated, and further insight says that there's a problem with the drivers, Code 31. Looking up Code 31, the solution entails using the device manager to scan for hardware. Well, funny thing...Device Manager is blank. I hit "Scan" and it does squat. Nothing I've searched for seems to be working, and it's quite disconcerting. Disconcerting in this case meaning I want to smack someone with a Ginsu set. I've waited before coming here, because I was hoping the solution would be easy to find. Obviously, that is not the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I have to break down and take it in somewhere, but a problem like this doesn't seem like that should be required (but hey, I'm clearly no technician).nondisclosed_email@example.com (SporkBot)Sat, 06 Aug 2016 12:38:31 +0000 Re: Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293987,from=rss#post293987https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293987,from=rss#post293987Well, with all the crap going on with Windows and IE and shit... All I know is that next March, I move in with my Geologist. And when that happens, I won't be paying $650 a month for rent, so I'm looking to leave the world of PCs behind and get myself a new iMac. (Especially since I can afford it now!) I'm looking forward to it. :)nondisclosed_email@example.com (MachSabre)Tue, 22 Dec 2015 23:36:13 +0000 Re: Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293981,from=rss#post293981https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293981,from=rss#post293981Yesterday (or maybe it was the day before), an errant click revealed that my Firefox works. Today, I decided to see if the same was true of Internet Explorer. Sure enough (though there was a bit of a stall), it's working. Some of the settings seem to have been reset, but it all seems nominal. Don't know how it happened, or when was the earliest point I could've started using them again. But I think we all know the real source of this issue, right? The Illuminati. They've been out to drive me insane since 19-dikkity-three!nondisclosed_email@example.com (SporkBot)Tue, 22 Dec 2015 13:53:58 +0000 Re: Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293458,from=rss#post293458https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293458,from=rss#post293458I've been hesitant to upgrade to Windows 10. Mixed reviews and all that. I'm fine with the OS I have, and I've dabbled in the confusion of Windows 8.1 on my Mom's machine. Chrome's fine for now, but I'm seriously curious what the hell happened with those browsers and why they're so unresponsive when there doesn't appear to be any spy/malware or virus involved.nondisclosed_email@example.com (SporkBot)Fri, 02 Oct 2015 20:50:34 +0000 Re: Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293456,from=rss#post293456https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293456,from=rss#post293456Only on Windows 10 can you use Edge. It's quite good.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Opprime)Fri, 02 Oct 2015 18:52:25 +0000 Re: Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293455,from=rss#post293455https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293455,from=rss#post293455Well, didn't IE undergo a serious upgrade lately to Edge or some silly thing like that?nondisclosed_email@example.com (MachSabre)Fri, 02 Oct 2015 17:40:50 +0000 Why does technology make me want to KILL?!?https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293453,from=rss#post293453https://bdeinonychusden.runboard.com/p293453,from=rss#post293453So I'm online this morning, when IE just kind of craps out on me. Every try to open it, the Window pops up, is completely blank for several seconds, then auto-closes. But I also have Firefox. So I try seeing what's up there, since I already had a window open. I finds something about reset IE's settings to default, and I tried it, but I don't think anything happened. Still not functioning. I forget how/why, but Firefox closed, and now it won't open AT ALL. I try running compatibility tests, which result in nothing. BUT, I also have Chrome, and that seems to be working well enough. I try re-downloading Firefox, and nothing happens. I look online for assistance, and none of it helps. One guy with a similar problem with Firefox found that if he uninstalled Chrome, then re-installed Firefox, then re-installed Chrome, things worked fine. But I don't think that's in option for me (If I uninstall the only browser that's working for me...?). Malware Bytes found no serious problems. I had both Webroot and Norton scan IE, they didn't find any problems. I'll have one of'em do a fuller scan and see if that finds anything. Crap, technology doesn't seem to like me sometimes.nondisclosed_email@example.com (SporkBot)Fri, 02 Oct 2015 11:58:15 +0000
