Re: Suicide Squad It's a nice trailer. Somehow, though filled with cutthroats, destruction and violence, doesn't feel remotely as gloomy as the BvS trailer.
Despite looking a lot like Gillian Jacobs in a couple shots, Harley still looks stupid.
I'm preparing for all the raves about Jared Leto's take on the Joker. Because that's what Hollywood and the entertainment press does, rave about someone's take on the Joker.
Be a shame if someone ever...you know...just did a solid portrayal of the Joker. (And Hamill never counts in these things)
Re: Suicide Squad I liked the fan cast a friend came up with for Joker.
Tom Hiddleston.
He has the build, the widows peak (Veeery important ) The smile and most importantly, something a lot of Jokers forget.
He has Charisma!
The Joker has a silver tongue that can twist people around to his way of thinking. (How else do you explain his goons happily working for a demented clown? :P) And he used it to turn an up an coming shrink into a crazed nut job (Harleen Quinzel did actually get her Diploma in Psych)
But Holly Wood will probably prefer the over the top mass killer, so no clown prince of crime, just a killer with some make up.
One of his classic traits is his smile, so having his teeth look like he tried to be all "SHINY AND CHROME!" doesn't quite work for me.
I think they're expecting the "shiny" to get people attention. People like shiny things. Also, it'll probably be the most light we get in any of these films.

I like your reasoning...but don't enough of our comic characters get portrayed by the Brits?!

Yet he totally should.
That said, I think Heath Ledger did a fine job. Sure (borrowing from DS' remarks) he less used his silver tongue and more threats and verbal zig-zaggery to get people to see his way, but he was clever and even funny.
That said, I agree, I'd like to see something more akin to the Animated Series Joker. Fun, humorous, and honest-to-goodness comedic talent (so that leaves out a lot of Comedy Central fare), charismatic, has a sense of class, and still very, very dangerous. Kind of like how some say, the scariest thing in a horror movie is what you don't see, that a guy that looks like a clown in a three-piece suit doesn't look deadly, can be very much so (Kind of like Ledger's, but cleaner-looking).
Re: Suicide Squad I get what they're going for. I really do. Where as Marvel is more lighthearted and fun, even in their darker stuff... DC went the other route and make their !@#$ dark and gritty... Even when it shouldn't be. And I do get why they need to.
Think about it. If they decided to make these movies fun action and adventure movies, everyone would be saying "They just copied Marvel's formula!" And you know they would. Hell, you know YOU would. (I would!) This way, they get to save face and say "See, we did it our own and it worked!" (Whether it does or doesn't.)
That said... Hey, Ant-Man comes out this weekend! :D
