LEGO What?

Who.

I kind of figured that this was inevitable after the last round of LEGO Ideas sets included a Big Bang theory set. I'm just shocked that some birds were approved alongside that set last time as well.

It seems that unless your creation is based on a pre-existing pop culture property or caters to some niche in the scientific community it's not getting made :P

I'm more amused by the fact I've seen one off the offbrand block sets selling a couple smaller Dr Who themed sets I've ignored at the local Target for several months now. Wonder how that licensing works out :lol

That brand would be Cobi, and I think they no longer have the Who license. Technically, Dr. Who was in the last Ideas review phase, but a decision was "held-off on", presumably because of the license getting ready to or having just expired. And I've seen the stuff you're talking about. I've wanted to grab one for the stone-like elements, but not for the $20 they had it priced at.

And just because I'm one of those free-thinking block-nerds I'd argue that Cobi isn't an "off brand". In fact, they make a line of WWII tanks I've been crazy for over the past couple of years.

Problem is, they're so damned expensive to import. If they weren't $60-$80 bucks a pop then I could expand beyond the tanks into the half-tracks or the Opel Blitz or the Katyusha

Oh, i remember you showing me those really cool tank sets some time back, no idea this company made them.

But "offbrand" there really wasn't meant to be a dig on quality. They're all basically the same design/pieces/compatibility to Lego, so if it's not Lego, it's offbrand. I can't keep them separate beyond that :lol

That does make sense on the licensing though.

Same to see that they said no to the Lego Ghostbusters firehouse, yet they are going to make Big garbage theory sets. Stupid show. I hope the set rot on the shelf.
