I.E. functionality issues

I pretty much use Internet Explorer, have been since I got this computer. It's work fine, more or less. Some issues here and there, but nothing enough to get me stop using it as a browser. Yet...

Some weeks back, I was catching up on the webcomic Misfile. Shortly after (and actually during reading, I think), my comp started humming like it was doing a bunch of different stuff. I open the Task Manager, and there's a bunch of stuff taking oodles more CPU % than normal. Stuff I don't recognize, but then again, I haven't memorized the minutia of my computer's basic operations.

It does this for several days after. I'm not doing much, don't have too many windows up, and it's humming with a bunch of applications running (some I can't turn off), slowing me down. I run anti-virus scans, they don't turn up much. But the problem subsided. Could've been because of some (optional) Windows updates, I don't know, but the computer's running normally now.

YET...

*Some weirdness has set in. My browser history, which normally went back at least a week or two, won't retain anything for more than a day (after stumbling across the setting, I've set to a week, and it seems to stick).

*I'll get a notification that my security settings won't let me download something (like an I.E. update I apparently didn't need, or a Malwarebytes trial...both of which I used Firefox to access). I try checking the security stuff, but I don't see anything that I can change to fix this.

*I have all pop-ups blocked (save for some sites), but I still get pop-up ads in some cases (it just happened to me after I clicked a Snopes.com link).

*I can't seem to choose the Copy function when right-clicking an image. Sometimes I'll see something that I want to Photoshop for funsies, and copy it to do so. Now if I want to do that, I have to save it to my drive and open it through Photoshop.

I got the Malwarebytes free trial (though it irks me that neither Norton nor Webroot handles malware), did a scan, and it found roughly 300+ items, only a handful of which were serious. They've been dealt with, but the problems pop-ups and non-functioning Copy are persisting (I don't know about the "Security settings" issue, haven't seen it, but I also haven't had to download anything in particular lately, so...).

I've tried going to Google, but that's turned up a lot of nothing (aside from one suggestion of Malware, which...you know).

Ideas? Thoughts? Random knock-knock jokes?

Yeah, the malware will do that. The way to fix it is pretty easy.
Click on Internet settings.
The click on the security tab.
Click on the Internet and click custom settings.
Scroll down till you get to IE Download and uncheck the box.
Save all and everything should be good.
You might need to go into safe mode and run a malware scan to get them all. My dad just had a similar issue I spent several hours cleaning it up.

Thanks, man (I saw "Download, so I'll assume it's the same as I.E. Download, and switched it from Disable to Enable). I even stumbled upon the Use Pop-up Blocker, which was set to Disable.

Appreciate the advice. Probably would've figured it out myself if I didn't have the attention span of

Yeah, That's it. I was doing it from memory, but glad to help.
