Flickering/Strobe Effect on LCD-LED TV

Figured this was a good a place as any to try to find some answers. I have a 32" RCA LED/LCD TV and yesterday it started to flicker to the point of having a strobe effect. The picture would never go out completely though. It started off and on and it then got to the point where it was continuous until I turned it off for a while and turned it back on. One thing I noticed is if I get it back to normal and flip the picture over the Power Saving setting it doesn't happen much if at all.

From what I have read it could be something simple as repairing a solder to even replacing the whole backlight bord which can get pricey. It sucks that its just around a year and half old but if its too pricey I might have no choice but to buy a replacement TV. Any thoughts?

(and yes I did tell them I wanted the ext protection plan but apparently it was never added when I originally set this up for Layaway like the checker said it would be).

It certainly sounds like a backlight issue. My impression of TVs these days is that unless it's under warranty, or you have a really expensive TV, it'd be more economical to replace it. Especially considering it's December and there's all kinds of sales. This is unless, of course, you are really good at diagnosing and repairing electronics on a component level, and can do the work yourself.

I think I could probably figure out how to fix it if it is just the backlight inverter. Only problem is that I am not 100% certain it is and don't really want to waste $50+ on a part. Also, checked locally, and there is no local repair centers within 30 miles, which is ironic since the town with the closest one is a hell of a lot smaller and said center is not rated very high online.

So, I took your advice and went to shop for a better brand. Found a Toshiba 32" for $199.99. Put it on layaway and this time I'm buying the extra coverage in case something like this happens again.
