Comics to Film & Television news

Thought I'd try just posting updates in a single topic.

-Fox has set 2/12/16 as the opening date for the Deadpool solo film. No official word on if Ryan Reynolds, star of several terrible comic films, will be back to star.

-Fox has also moved the Fantastic Four movie to an August opening after Guardians became the #1 movie of this year (so far).

-CBS, the only major network to not have a comic based show, has committed to Supergirl. If the show gets made that will give DC a presence on 4 of the 5 major broadcast networks (Disney owns the 5th).

-There's a rumor that Amazon wants to revive the live-action version of "The Tick" as an original online series, and that Patrick Warburton will return to the role.

-David Ayer, director of "Training Day", "End of Watch" and the upcoming WWII film "Fury" has been asked to direct the Suicide Squad film. That would fill another of the mysterious DC film release dates.

-Scott Glenn has been cast as Stick in the Daredevil series.

That's not fair! He's been in non-comic movies that've sucked, too!

(I actually don't know that for sure, I think X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Blade: Trinity are the only films I've seen him in. Still, had to be said.)

Because making a movie that's actually good has next to nothing to do with its success.

Yeah, I know what I said.

As long as the actors and actresses can actually act, the writing is decent, and the costume isn't overly sexy and/or ridiculous to the point of distraction, I'll be okay. It may even be worth the inevitable segues and ads they'll have where the dorks from "Big Bang Theory" get all excited about a superhero show on their network, and one (or two) of them have to "excuse themselves" when they find out it's Supergirl. Y'know...with BOOBS!

Y'know...I'm not excited about this. Sure, it was intriguing when it first aired and sadly passed, and the cartoon before was funny, but...I don't know if the Tick, even as a superhero parody, will work in live-action. But hey, with the right writing, who am I to say no?

If they play it right, this could be their Guardians of the Galaxy. But since it's DC, it'll probably be their X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Wow. First an astronaut, and now training Daredevil!

(Yeah, I don't really have an opinion on this, and the astronaut joke was too choice to pass up.)

-Sony is in "delicate" talks with Marvel regarding a cinematic crossover. Don't expect anything for several years, though, this may depend on whether or not "Sinister Six" bombs in 2016.

-Fox is said to be developing their own X-Men television series as a further "go eff yourself" to Marvel.

-Rumor - Robbie Baldwin on SHIELD (that's Speedball if you're not aware)

-The Flash was the CW's biggest premiere since 2009 with 4.5 million viewers. I already like it. Run, Barry, RUN!

-Rumor - the second string Avengers will star in Avengers 3, but the bigs will be back for "Avengers 4" or whatever they're going to call the big, cosmic smackdown with Thanos.

-Harvey Dent will be a recurring character on Gotham (no surprise there).

-Booster Gold may appear on the Flash.

-"The Walking Dead" has already been renewed for season 6 (duh.)

-Executive producer of "Dredd", Adi Shankar, has created an unofficial 7-part series featuring the Dark Judges that will be available free online later this month.

-"Guardians of the Galaxy" will be released on 11/18 (digital version) and 12/9 (DVD/BD)

-Not comics, but I'll mention that "Star Wars: Rebels" has been renewed for season 2 already, but Greg Weisman has left the show, which I guess is why it got renewed...(?)

-As noted previously, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Khan, Smaug) has reportedly been cast as Doctor Strange.

-The character of Linda Park has been added to the cast of The Flash, but as a possible love interest for Barry. No sign of Wally yet.

-Geoff Johns has confirmed that everyone's favorite intellectually advanced simian, Grodd, will also be making an appearance. A live-action Grodd. Hell, yeah.

-Warners is eyeing A-list actors for Suicide Squad including Will Smith and Tom Hardy. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor may also be involved in that one.

-Rumor: Jaden Smith to star in a Static series for Warners' new digital division, Blue Ribbon Content.

-Rumor: another DC television series titled "Krypton". Wonder what that's about?

-Even though it's being branded as a Disney film, Big Hero 6 will include a number of Marvel Easter eggs and also have a post-credits scene.

-Speaking of Easter eggs, there were a number in the debut episode of Constantine, including the helmet of Fate and some backwards-written spells.

There might be a Batman v Superman teaser attached to The Hobbit.

If it's anything like Gotham...about half as interesting as it should be.

That meant one of two things
1) Eventually we may see quite a few other supernatural and magical DC characters. Perhaps eventually a Justice League Dark.
2) It was just an easter egg, but an acknowledgement of the comic origins, which is still cool for a major network show.

Definitely will be more supernatural DC seen. Jim Corrigan has already been cast and someone is coming to claim the helm of Fate.

So, today's Marvel event-

*Cap 3: CIVIL WAR. May 6 2016. Less focus on the "secret identity" but more about superhero responsibilities.

*Doctor Strange: Date set for November 4 2016.

*Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Bumped up to May 5 2017.

*Thor 3: RAGNAROK. July 28 2017.

*BLACK PANTHER: November 3 2017. Starring Chadwick Boseman... who I've never heard of but I have faith in their choices by this point.

*CAPTAIN MARVEL: July 6 2018. Yes, its Carol! :D but no lead actor yet...

*The Inhumans: November 2 2018. Never heard of it.

*AVENGERS 3: INFINITY WAR Is split in half!
Part 1 on May 4 2018, Part 2 on May 3 2019.

Words can't describe my excitement over most of those annoucements.

Little leery about the repercussions of Civil War in the movie-verse.. but if A3/A4 is more than just a name-drop of the Infinity War saga.. :crazy
