Pokemon X/Y

Ok, 'fess up, who has them? :P

I picked it up last week and been having trouble putting it down and now that I have my 3DS online now, who wants to trade and/or throwdown? :P

Still don't know how to find and add specific people though or even how to get or add friend codes.

Re: Pokemon X/Y

You add people through the 3DS's global friends list. Nintendo finally did away with the stupid per-game friend codes with the 3DS, and now it's just one for your system across all games. Hit your Home button, and look for the orange smiley face. I'll start a thread for 3DS friend codes.

I've got my 6th badge and my play clock is at 54 hours right now. In addition to taking it 3D, it seems like they did a pass over a lot of the little traditions and mechanics that were just annoying. Your starter begins with a STAB elemental move, and your first battle is against the girl whose starter is weak to yours. The game seems determined to make leveling up easier. I have not had to really spend a lot of time grinding for gyms. In fact, just playing the game thoroughly I've found myself OVER leveled for the gyms. EVs are now visible, and they've added a much less obnoxious way of building them up. This opens competitive play up to a lot more people who previously would've just been creamed for lack of EV training. Just tons of little details. I have probably not had this much fun just playing through a Pokémon game since Silver.

Beat this sucker last night. Story was actually not half bad for a Pokémon game. I mean it wasn't deep or anything, but it was better than B&W. Post game is looking a little sparse on the Legendary Pokémon front...

http://serebii.net/xy/legendary.shtml

Zygarde, Mewtwo, and only one of the Legendary Birds depending on your starter. Moltres for me (argh). I have them all from previous generation games, but still. I also haven't seen anything online about hidden/event Pokémon beyond Zygarde. Usually people will have done a ROM dump and found all that pretty early on... but nothing so far. May have to do with encryption on 3DS carts making this harder/impossible. Or maybe there just aren't any :(

Anyway, after I get my legendaries I'll probably take a break to play Batman. Then come back and try my hand at the online battles. Hopefully by then Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter will be up so I can get my good !@#$ off my older carts instead of starting from scratch.

So after roughly a dozen people I knew mentioned picking this up, I'm just now getting my own (was planning to hold off until Christmas, but oh well).

Just got my first badge and I'm struck by all the little quality of life improvements. The EXP Share promises to speed that up even moreso, I suspect. Really useful for power leveling lowbie stuff like Weedle and Caterpie.

I initially thought it worked like the original R/B/Y XP Share in that it took what you got and divided it up. That's actually not the case, quoting from Serebii.net:

quote:

unlike past generations, it's no longer cut by the amount of Pokémon that were in battle. Instead, all Pokémon who were in the battle will automatically get 100% of the experience, but those which weren't in battle will receive 50% of the experience

So in practice, it's an XP MULTIPLIER. If every Pokemon participates, you get a total of 6x normal XP. Even if only one participates, you still get 3.5x normal. That's insane. Like I said before, I found that by simply playing the game thoroughly, facing every trainer I came across, I was not only matching gym leaders' levels... I was exceeding them. I had Pokémon knocking on the door of level 80 by the time I hit the E4, and the Champion's best is only Lv. 70. Some are saying this makes the game too easy, and I kind of agree. Still, not having to pace back and forth in the grass for hours before facing a gym made the game A LOT less tedious. Plus, with Super Training and the XP share, I'll be a lot more inclined to try new Pokémon out online since it won't take me two days to EV train and level it.

I thought that XP Share was a little better judging how fast my party was growing. I had to book it to gym battles to get the badge before my pokemon would level out of range for me to control.

By the time I got through the final four, champion, and AZ, my Pokemon ranged from level 78-84 and was able to take them down easilly.

Were you using the Blaziken (Torchic) that Nintendo is giving away? I had that issue with him, constantly being worried he'd get so high level that he'd start disobeying. It's too bad they didn't set it up so the Torchic has you as its OT, rather than Nintendo.

Also, that was a pretty nice gift. Blaziken has long been one of the best Pokémon in the game. Give it Mega Evolution and holy !@#$... The Mega Evolution I actually wanted to use was Gardevoir, but you can't get its stone until after you beat the game. :/ Gardevoir is another one that was already fairly good, but is now an absolute beast with Mega Evolution and the Fairy type added.

I did use Torchic some and evolved him to Combusken, but I sent him to the PC when Lucario wanted to join the group after the Mega Ring battle.

My main go to Pokemon was Mega Charizard X. Now that I beat the game, I'm about to go track down Mewtwo. I have a nice shiny Master Ball with his name on it. emoticon

Ugh, you need that Master Ball too. Normally I can catch legendaries the legit way using paralysis, False Swipe and Dusk Balls. When they heal, it's a !@#$ though. He uses Recover, and he will also stack up Barrier which makes it hard to work him down before he uses Recover again.

I managed to catch Cressellia legit in Black 2 through some luck, but I had to Master Ball her in Platinum. Same reason, healing. Legendaries' catch rate is so low that if they have any more than 1 HP, the math really starts turning against you.

So, between Wonder Trade and Catch XP, I've found myself spending a lot more on basic Pokeballs while I'm out on routes searching for that !@#$ Abra.

Even if I get vendor trash from another area, it's a Pokedex slot I haven't filled yet.
