Yep...I was right about the "Zombiecons"

Interesting to see GB after all these years, and it should also be interesting to see where the plot thread with the "'Con in cube" goes. With that guy, it's bound to be brutal.

Not sure I like where the Hot Rod thing is going. I've unexpectedly moderated my opinion of Rodimus Prime through recent viewings of Season 3, but he's still a poor replacement for Optimus.

Rodimus doesn't need to suck. The best leaders are those who have the responsibility thrust upon them. This was the case with Orion Pax becoming Prime. A coming of age for a new Autobot hero could be a great arc... if they don't !@#$ it up. Problem is, up to now, they've always fucked it up.

My comic book store dropped the ball and I missed on issue #82 on. I only read bits of the Marvel run so I dont have a good complete history of what happened during that run. Has everything since #81 worth trying to track down the missing issues, waiting for a TPB, or not worry about it.

Mach posted an epic rant/article about how Rodimus keeps getting shafted on his DA account. It was a good read, and I have to agree with him and all the Rodimus fans, that would like to see their preferred Autobot leader treated with some respect.

Thing is, he IS getting respect. (Finally!) In the MTMTE book, he's actually treated with respect, while given an actual personality. Sure, he's the leader of a crew of lunatics, psychotics and emotionally damaged individuals... But he's treated competently. And from what it looked like in the Annual... The "Chosen One" may get his day in the light of dignity after all.

But here in Regeneration, I didn't really ever expect Rodimus to come out shining. I remember an interview I did with Furman back with the TFD deal, and one of the questions I asked him was his opinions about certain characters, and one of the was Rodimus. His thoughts was that he loved Hot Rod, but disliked Rodimus. I do not know if that is still true or not... But it's what he said then.

I never had a problem with Hot Rod. It was just the McGuffin way he turned into Rodimus Prime and seemed to be handed the role of leader. That's why I was never a fan of "Rodimus Prime". It was just BOOM there it is.

Now MTMTE, I love the way they handle Hot Rod. You actually see him develop and grow into the role of leader as "Rodimus" with no Matrix or McGuffin making him taller with a new vehicle mode and hey your leader now!

Personally, I think Hot Rod was set up for fan hate from most at that crucial moment when he lept for Megatron and caused Prime to hold back and get shot to death.

I should've put my wording in the past tense. Back then, when Roddy was seemingly not getting any respect, I agreed that he should. :D
But definitely good to hear that finally he's being written well. I think that's one thing that makes Roberts really stand apart from most all other TF writers (based on everything I've heard about his series)- I never get the feeling that he particularly hates any character. Or at the very least, he knows that every character is someone's favorite, and so he makes good use of them. It's nice.

Re: Regeneration One

*LZ rises from the dead*

Months later, I've finally caught up on ReGen1 thanks to the trade paperback. Iabun, if you still need 80.5, it's reprinted there. So here are my random collection of thoughts. If you have any immediate response, please remain spoiler-free for #86 and on. Thanks!

I saw Mach's comments earlier about wanting to like this series, and I kinda agree. It doesn't have quite the same magic as Furman's run in the Marvel days. The pacing is very slow, but I hope that it pays off with the amount of setups that are being established.

Earth's fate was indeed quite the shocker, but like Deino said, not unexpected. While it makes things very dark for the Marvel continuity, it does echo back to one of the most fascinating loose ends of G2, the nuking of San Fransisco. I always wanted to know where that would lead, and in spirit, now we know. Simply put, Earth, Nebulos, Klo, nor any planet can withstand the Transformers civil war. I think that is going to be the theme leading up to #100. Their war brings nothing but devastation so Hot Rod must find a way to bring it to a final end.

I wasn't all that interested in the Wreckers being the primary characters through this arc. Maybe because they were never featured in the US comics. Perhaps Blaster leading a crew would have been more fitting given his strong role early on in the series, his rebellious streak and his ties to Earth.

There were a lot of Autobots seen that I kept saying "Hey, he's dead!" But with the Last Autobot around and his ability to revive Transformers, I gave that a pass. Interesting concept with the Zombiecons, though I did notice Shockwave was not among them.

Without Primus, Last Autobot and the Matrix, is there any way for new Transformers to emerge? Or has their species reached the end of the line? That's probably where Scorponok's story takes us.

Yay, we at least got a tiny cameo of Circuit Breaker. Glad they snuck that in!

I am kinda surprised that Prime let this happen to Earth. In G2, he left Hot Spot behind to monitor Earth. Why wouldn't the same precaution be made here?

Thunderwng? It seems like every Decepticon leader is reappearing. Well, Ratbat isn't going to be in contention for that role. Nice touch with Galvatron reawakening immediately after Megatron's defeat.

Seems odd that Soundwave is such a central character. He was a nobody in Marvel continuity. His only shining moment that I recall was leading the Constructicons in #10. Then again, this probably had more to do with future Soundwave from the UK storylines.

Megatron and Prime's battle reminded me very much of their battle in Dreamwave's first limited series.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Most of this series has been sort of unremarkable so far, but it looks like things are ramping up a bit with #93. And big kudos for the inclusion of Wingthing and one of Rodimus Prime's G1 concept art incarnations emoticon
