Power Core Searchlight w. Backwind

Searchlight:

I'll begin w/ his robot mode. Searchlight is actually a pretty cool little robot. He has a pretty good range of movement. The propellers do hinder his arms a bit but are easily removable. The only drawback, at least w/ mine, is that when you move the arms you move the whole side panel his arm attaches to.

Transformation is simple. Remove props, fold up legs, fold in arms, bring cockpit halves together and re-attach props. His alt mode is a double prop rescue coptor. The alt mode is handled rather well and the robot parts such as head and hands are well hidden.

Backwind
Searchlight is partnerd w/ Backwind. The Mini-Con is a little green bot with slightly bent legs and long arms.

*Bot Mode: Rather poseable but nothing special.
*Gun Mode: Looks rather akward with only one arm as barrel.
*Coptor attachement: This is the worst mode: It hinders Searchlight's alt mode and does not blend well at all.
*Armor: Backwind can fold up his arms and legs and attach to Searchlight's chest. This is the best mode and the only mode that does not look akward or silly when attached.

Since I do not have any drone attachements, I'll hold off reviewing that mode.

Highly Recommended (Just dont expect much from the Mini-Con)

Power Core Smolder w. Chopster

Smolder

Robot mode is actually pretty stable. I was a bit worried when I saw him in package because he has long monkey arms but the arms slide up when he's free from his package. Overall he is very stable and poseable. The only drawback is his head is a bit tiny compared to his body.

Transformation is simple. Fold up the forearms, fold down sidepanes, and fold up legs and snap them together and then bring upper arm halves together. One thing to note is to be careful when snapping his legs together. The two sides on his car front end are held together with a very tiny and then peg which could snap easily if too much force is applied. Vehicle mode is a fire rescue unit. The vehicle mode does seem a little squished but is bad and even has a stylized decepticon logo with "flame hair".

Chopster

Smolder is paired w/ Chopster. He is black and clear orange w/ ax blade feet.

*Robot mode: His robot mode is poseable as mini-cons come but the arms and legs are a bit loose but he is able to stand on his own.
*Ax Mode: This is one of the two best modes. The ax mode is not akward and makes a believable ax that fits easily into Smolder's Hand.
*Vehicle Cannon Mode: The second best alt mode. It hooks neatly to a peg on top of Smolder's alt mode and works much better than Backwind on Searchlight's alt mode.
*Armor mode: The worst of his combinations. The ax handle sticks out a bit and magnifies the fact Smolder's head is too tiny.

Power Core Huffer w. Caliburst

Huffer
I'm going to say upfront that Huffer is so far my least favorite of the first three PCC 2-pack figures. He has a wide range of motion but the knee joints and elbow joints on mine are weak and somewhat loose. He still manages to stand on his own though. Although named after a G1 character his robot mode doesnt really have much in common. In truck mode is where his namesake really comes through. Perhaps, the easiest of the three PCC transformations. Connect the legs, rotate arms and fold back arms and connect behind back. Also of note: I dont know if its just mine, but the paint apps are really sloppy and are uneven.

Caliburst
Huffer is partnered w/ Caliburst. Who is also perhaps the worst of the first 3 PCC Mini-Cons.

*Robot Mode: The robot mode on mine looks ok, but the leg joints are very loose and I have trouble getting him to stay standing. The arm joints are swivel and can only move forward and back. Also the canon on his left arm hinders the movement.
*Robot Weapon: Caliburst forms a cannon that can fit under Huffer's arm. Not a bad mode but w.o the ability to snap his legs together, Caliburst's legs go flying every which way.
*Robot Armor: This is actually one of the better modes. The panels fold out to the side, the arms are straight out and the legs fold up. The only drawback is the canon sticks straight out to the side.
*Vehicle Mode: Huffer's vehicle mode is the better mode and it also reflects w/ Caliburst. The canon fits right on the trailer hitch and works and looks great and doesnt look out of place.

Night Ops Ratchet

The 4th repaint of the Movie Ratchet 2007 voyager mold. This time he is sporting a night time paint job which is primarily black with the "movie" Ratchet bright green as highlights. This scheme is the same that is found on the RPM Ratchet/Megatron 2 pack.

Mold is pretty much the same but there are a few little tidbits. I don't know if this is from mold degrade or on just mine but the upper half and the bottom half of robot mode doesnt line up properly. Also the legs halves dont line up just right in vehicle mode. Also there are some sloppy paint aps and a few splotches here and there. They also painted over Ratchet's light pipe eyes.

But, imo, the darker night scheme works better for Ratchet in and out of robot mode and I prefer it over the original, rescue (G1 doesnt work on this mold), or even the "creative" Desert Tracker version.

If you already have a voyager Ratchet and are happy with him, I'd say pass. But if you are looking for a Voyager version for your ROTF shelf, I'd recommend Night Ops over the lazy Desert Tracker version.

Battle Blade Bubelbee.

Robot mode: fairly large actuly, his legs are almost folded in half just to fit in the blister, which was a rather plesent supries. His "battle" mode is reather interestingly done too, his helmet slides down to make a good face plate and the gun arm is a clever little fold out weapon, as for the ax... it's got a hair triger button to pop out and then you have to unfold it, this becomes a major pain duing transformation.

Veichel mode: what to say, it's still the same car it was the last 3 times they made him, but a little bit extra has been added. He has the word camero writen on him, a fuel filler cap and a few other details that the early ones were missing. As for how he transforms, it's a bit tricky, but when done he's rather solid, no lose panels or that.

Play: :bot :bot :bot :bot
Display: same again.

points for fianly making a moive toy that looks like they do on screen: :bot :bot :bot :bot :bot emoticon

Power Core Combiner Skyburt and Aerialbots

For the first time since Energon, "Superion" returns in a new mold but not officially. The first Autobot offering in the 5 pack PCC line is Skyburst and his Aerialbot drones. However, I'll say upfront, there is nothing "Superion" about this set at all.

Skyburst

I'll start with Skyburst. He's your basic scout transformer. In robot mode he is farely sturdy and has a wide range of posability. Transformation is simple. His jet mode is also pretty good. Mine though doesnt line up just right and the cockpit seems to angle up slightly compared to the rest of his jet mode.

Drones

The aerialbot drones include a radar jet, rescue chopper, attack chopper, and attack jet. The only real Aerialbot throwback besides in the name, is the attack jet and that it sports a similiar paint scheme to G1 Skydive. Seperately, not bad little toys except for the attack coptor which seems really loose.

"Superion" mode

Combined mode is allright but overall just doesnt seem to work as well as Bombshock's "Bruticus" mode. The arms snap on all right and form a hand and claw. The leg drones are another story. Both didnt want to snap into place. I had to help it by partially transforming the limb to allow the panel for the connector to slide into place. His legs are the weakest part. You have to tilt the legs slightly back to get them to hold up at all. And due to the location of the connector pegs on Skyburst's legs, he tends to want to do the splits.

Overall, if you have to pick one or the other in this first 5 pack wave, I'd settle for Bombshock. But as for Skyburst, if you want the commander figure, I suggest waiting for the upcoming 2 pack repaint. In my judgement, I'd recommend PASSING all together on this one and avoid the upcoming repaints that have one or the other aerialbot drone repaint as a leg.

Battle Blade Optimus Prime

FINALLY the Prime toy I've been wanting for my Movie-verse shelf since the live-action series began. Screen-accurate, poseable, and above all FUN.

Transformation is a lot like the ROTF Leader-class one scaled down, except this time it actually feels possible to get it right!!!

Also has all the right weapons- guns AND blades FTW.

Removable Matrix of Leadership is a real nice bonus but the damn thing kept popping out at exactly the wrong time during transformation.

Fansproject Crossfire.

the latests kit to come out from Fansproject, this is probaly biggest thing they have done to date, but lets break it down in to it's basic parts.

Explorer

or as we know it, Blast off. this is porbaly the weak link the the whole set, he's reather lightweight and made up of several fold away pannels, a grreat idea on a voyager toy, not so great on scout.

he dose have a decent amount of posibilty for his size, but again i'm afraid of doing anything more than just having him stand there out of fear of breaking it.

as for his vechiel mode, it's a rather nice unmaned drone of some sort, that fits in scale wise with the rest of the team.

all in all, probaly 2.5 :dcon out of 5, he's nice, but not that wow.

Munitioner

ahhh Swindel, my second most loved con after Starscream, but lets remove the rose tint glasses and look at the toy.

where Blast Off seemed a bit fragile, Swindle is a solid toy, no clever floding panels or anything, just a nice simple trasformation from bot to jeep. the toy actuly gives the impresion that it was ment to be played with by kids!!!!!

as i isad, simple transformation, nice solid toy, he gets a 4 :dcon out of five

Colossus (also called C3)

now for the combined mode..... he's big... no really! this guy is almost as big as Unicron now.

the legs are same old same old, but as for the arms, you now get shoulders and elbows (with out much effort). this is saldy the only part that Blast Off shins in, seeing as he only needs to move at the waist here (which is the most stable part of him).

the wepons load out for this guy ranges from combat knife, back mounted cannons (that fold over his shoulders), Anti-Material riffel and two big... um... Carbines i think.

probaly the best part of the whole kit really so a nice 5 :dcon out of 5.

Huh, now see, I really liked Blast Off and would have rated him at a 4, not a 2.5. My biggest complaint about him is that his feet just don't stay together in shuttle mode.

Gundam and Kamen Rider, two flavors that taste great together.

i tend to play with my TF's a fair bit, always transforming or repossing them, so when Blast off feels like a bit of exces force would shater parts of him... thats why the low score
