Clone Wars Season Four

Let's get a new thread started up. Today we got shown this thing:

Interestingly enough, Lucasfilm does a wonderful job making great epic trailers and teasers... Buuuuut like the last bunch of seasons, the payoff was never as good as promised. I mean, you look at this, you're thinking "Wow! Real !@#$'s gonna go down this season?" I mean, it really looks freakin' EPIC, like it would top everything we've seen. But we thought that for the last three years... I mean, it really looks great. But honestly, I'm just tired of being cockteased like this. I'm willing to bet this is probably all in one or two episodes and the rest will be Padme talking to tea drinking socialists...

Oh, speaking of which, Death Watch is back! Wonderful! Because we all couldn't get enough of the Mandalorians from before! :grr

Either kick ass or make room for something that will!

And of course I'm a sucker so I'll give it a try again... Gawd, I'm a !@#$.

I think, at this point, I'm justified in being entirely pessimistic about the upcoming season.

You're absolutely right, the trailers are exciting as hell, but the final product is lacking 80% of the time. A lot of the time, an episode will start off exciting and action-packed, but after three or four minutes, the plot settles into mediocrity.

The series also suffers from the cancer that suffuses Star Wars fiction recently, and really the past decade or so. The original three movies had ONE Jedi and TWO Sith (one we didn't even really know about until halfway through the third movie). Almost all of the fiction built around that period operated on scarcity of Jedi, even all the way up to the New Jedi Order series, the Jedi were rebuilding and not the primary focus of the story, but were part of the larger universe. All that changed with the prequels, and now nearly every narrative not only features Jedi, but is almost entirely dependent on them. They have even filled in the blank spots of Galactic history with enormous Sith empires and protracted Jedi/Sith super-wars.

It almost feels like the Science-Fantasy aspect of the property is overwhelming the Science-Fiction aspects. I liked Jedi fine when they weren't the majority of the story, nowadays, not so much.

I have some optimism, based mostly on the idea that they can't possibly do worse than Season 3. How much more boring can they get than 5 episodes of political debate, cross-season stories, and "tainted space-gatorade"?

They could've done more to salvage it, I think, than have an episode with a Jedi they try (and fail) at making "renegade badass, and while that three-parter on the Force Planet was neat, in the end it hardly seemed to matter at all.

That might be the entire problem with this series... Why a lot of people were kind of hoping this was an alternate universe and what not... Because in the end... It doesn't matter. We know that in a years time, most of these characters are going to be Order 66'ed. No point in getting attached to Kit Fisto, Plo Koon or Barriss Offee... They gonna be dead, and some of them dies like a !@#$.

At this point in time, we're essentially watching it to see what expanded universe details get changed and mainly... To see if Miss Tano will survive the Jedi Purge, and hoping along the way, they can tell a few good stories.

The problem is though, this comes across as a form of masochism. Does THIS matter? We know what happens.

Since the prequel trilogy, I have had zero interest in this portion of Star Wars history. Show me post ROTJ with Luke, Mara, Han, Leia and the Solo kids and we'll talk.

I agree with Gojitron. It's time to get off the Clone Wars section of Star Wars history. There's a good 1000-10000 year span that makes up Star Wars' history. It doesn't all have to be about Anakin "Whiny Little !@#$" Skywalker. I'd be game for some new Luke Skywalker stories. I'd be game for some kind of KOTOR story. Heck, how about an animated or live-action version of Legacy? That comic rocks so much that I started reading SW comics.

Or even better: A completely NEW story on the timeline that has never been told before.

I was done with this era of SW the moment ROTS' credits rolled. I was really to move forward either into the Purge era or Post ROTJ era, but no, they had to go back and retell the Clone Wars again. Sorry Lucas, but Genndy Tartakovsky already did it better. Move on, there's nothing to see here.

So for those that watched it... Was it any good? I saw Padme in the commercials for it, and turned it off right after Young Justice. (I swear, she's like a warning flare for a bad episode.)

Padme wasn't particularly prominant.

It was the first two parts of (at least) a three-parter, centering around a fish-people civil war, stirred up by an evil shark man under command by Dooku.

Nothing terribly spectacular, but not as bad as some of Season 3. Still not worth the Red Carpet vibe they had.

Re: Clone Wars Season Four

I saw it. I didn't like it.

First problem? Gungans. Yeah, Gungans.

The pacing of the episodes was really weird. Granted, I missed the first few minutes, but they go from having peace talks to BOOM! They're being invaded by Quarrens. The Mon Calamari start fighting and the main Mon Cal guy w/ Ackbar try to get behind the enemy, then all of a sudden the Mon Cal are somehow losing. Republic shows up with Fisto (who does very little btw, unlike when Tartakovsky did this story) and all of a sudden, somehow the Republic's lost most of its troops with the Quarrens sending in giant jellyfish. The Mon Cal retreat and in the next scene, the entire Mon Calamari army and Republic reinforcements are missing and somehow captured even though we clearly see them escape. The Republic sends Gungans to reinforce them since it'd take too long to train more clones for underwater combat. We see the Gungans deploy and turn the tide of the battle. Then the Separatists send in three ships which spin around and suddenly the entire Gungan/Republic force is gone. Completely gone and the main characters get captured. What?

Seriously, weird pacing and kind of bad editing. Not to mention that the action scenes were really pretty boring. Everything was veery slow and muffled, which does kind of make sense, but then you compare it to the version Tartakovsky made and it's like night and day. Tartakovsky's was full of face paced, loud action with giant prawn robots and submarine fights. This show had people slowly swim towards each other shooting really lame looking guns and riding sea sleds. No prawn robots, no submarines, not exciting at all. Hell, the main baddie carries no weapons or armor and fights by ramming head first into things. meh. and why was Padme even in this episode? She contributed nothing to the plot and didn't really do anything. For that matter, why was a politician fighting in another species' civil war?

Gundam and Kamen Rider, two flavors that taste great together.

I was neither very interested by it nor horrified by it, so I guess that counts for something. It was just sort of on, almost like I wasn't watching something that was Star Wars, but a Star Warsesque TV show.

Didn't quite get the whole "Game-changing ultimate weapon bionic jellyfish" thing. Large slow-moving, multi-ended cattle prods aren't exactly a huge tactical advantage :lol
