This chick, Pixelninja, does some damn fine cosplay as Samus and Zelda.

Re: General Metroid chit chat
Bought Super Metroid this last holiday season and I've been enjoying that game greatly. I really love exploring in these games. The only thing that's been driving me crazy is the wall jump. It's too sensitive and requires insanely precise timing to make it work.
Anyway, right now I've beaten Kraid, Crocomire, and Phantoon. Got nearly all the gear and upgrades except for the space jump/screw attack. But at the rate I've been going, I expect to have it beat within a couple days. Game is awesome. :D

Re: General Metroid chit chat
Super Metroid is one of my all time favorites, and one of the best designed games ever.
Said wall jump is an example of why it's so nearly perfect.
Like you said, the timing on it is very precise (once you get it down it's pretty easy after that -- I personally use the jumping SOUND as my que) -- but you never actually NEED it to complete the game. Mastery of it allows you to sneak into a few places sooner than you could otherwise, and nets you some extra powerups, but it's a totally free bonus power that rewards you for learning how to use it.
And the game is full of those kinds of things, it just oozes thoughtful design. I deeply wish we'd get a Link Between Worlds style sequel to Super Metroid.

Re: General Metroid chit chat
Yeah, it was cool to find those areas where Samus' pet friends demonstrate how to wall jump & then the other one that shows her how to power jump. I was like "I had those abilities all this time?!" I say pets, because I saw them in her ship in Fusion. Thought it was cute that they kept them around.
And yes, the world could definitely use a new Metroid. They should pick up after Fusion (and ignore Other M).
Anyway, I now have the space jump & screw attack in Super. I'm in lower Norfair trying to find the way to Ridley. And after that, on to Mother Brain!

Re: General Metroid chit chat
And just beat the game. Mother Brain was easy. Beat her on the first try. Ridley gave me more trouble than that. But it was still a cool final battle. Despite the fact that I've seen it plenty of times on youtube, it was still dramatic.
And for the first time beating it ever, my clear time was 9:51. Almost 10 hours I worked on that game! I'm not even going to attempt getting a better ending right now. Move on to something else for a while.
So that does it- I've beaten all the classic 2D Metroid games now.
Metroid: NES
Metroid Zero Mission: DS
Metroid 2: Return of Samus- Wii U
Super Metroid: Wii U
Metroid Fusion: DS
I'm kind of eye-balling the Prime trilogy sitting on the E-store right now. But after Super, I think I really need a break from Metroid.
