Transformers: Armada (Revisited)

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for inviting me to this board (particularly Mako Crab for throwing my name in). I anticipate much, much fun here.

That said, I welcome everyone in the Deinonychus' Den thread for "Transformers: Armada (Revisited)". For those new to the series, T:A-R is a massive fanfiction series which I've been hard at work on for the last four years. Basically, it's a different spin on the Unicron Trilogy, incorporating characters and elements from other corners of the franchise in an attempt at creating a more cohesive whole for the three individual series.

T:A-R is divided up into four thirteen-part arcs; the first two arcs are already complete, and Arc Three is currently in progress. I'll also be including supplemental materials in the form of glossaries, character info, and cast photos. If anyone wishes to contribute commentary, feel free.

Anyway, let's get started, shall we?

Re: Transformers: Armada (Revisited)

And now I begin posting the supplementary materials.

-

Glossary of Terms, Part 1

Artifacts of Primus: According to popular legend, seven artifacts were created by Primus in the early days of Cybertron’s history, each with similar energy signatures and similar properties. When brought together, the seven would unleash a great power from deep within Cybertron. While most don’t believe in the legends, four Artifacts are confirmed to exist, while the remaining three are in the process of being recovered.

Currently Confirmed Artifacts:
ChronoSaber (Allows mastery of time travel; held by Vector Prime)
Matrix of Leadership (Can grant life and unleash large amounts of spark energy; held by Optimus Prime)
Omega Lock (Focuses powers of the Four Keys; currently in Autobot possession)
Key of Wisdom (Powers specific Cyber Keys; currently in Autobot possession)

Autobot: One of three factions of Transformers, the Autobots are the predominant players in Cybertronian politics and society. Generally led and represented by Optimus Prime, the Autobots are the primary architects for Cybertronian society. It is normally through the Autobots that most non-Cybertronians are introduced to the race and that diplomatic matters are handled. They are generally pacifists, but many have trained themselves as capable warriors in part because of near-constant warfare.

CR Chambers/Stasis Pods: CR Chambers (short for Cryonic Restoration) are a modern staple of Cybertronian medical technology. They can heal large amounts of both internal and external damage, but are currently limited in their capabilities.

CR Chambers work by temporarily placing a Transformer in stasis, allowing their systems to focus solely on repairs. The chambers interface with a Transformer’s internal systems, directing repair on critical areas. However, they consume large amounts of energy, thus limiting their practicality.

Similar to them are stasis pods, used to store Transformer protoforms prior to assumption of new vehicular forms and reformatting. They are far less energy-consumptive, and are commonly used with long-term space missions and prisoner containment.

Cyber Keys: A manifestation of Spark energies, Cyber Keys, when summoned, provide a temporary increase in a Transformer’s power reserves and allows for the activation of previously-dormant systems. This is similar to the Powerlinx process, but requires less space and complicated systems. Until recently, few Transformers were capable of accessing Cyber Keys, despite many having the systems necessary; the only one who had demonstrated such powers is Vector Prime, and he attributes this to his possession of the ChronoSaber. With the recovery of the Omega Lock, many Transformers were able to access such powers. It is theorized that if Optimus Prime possessed similar tech, he would be able to access a Key with the aid of the Matrix of Leadership.

Cybertron: Home world of the Transformers, Cybertron was first discovered by the Quintessons approximately 9 million Earth years ago and initially used as a primary manufacturing plant. Their products, given life over several hundred thousand years thanks to Vector Sigma, rebelled, and established their own civilization. Current leadership is the Cybertron Council, led mostly by Transformers who have cast off their particular faction and effectively become neutral. The council regularly convenes in matters of economy and defense, can be called at a moment’s notice, and allows for guest speakers from any faction.

Cybertron orbits the star Alpha Centauri, placing it approximately 4.3 light years from Earth. It is a metallic world approximately the size of Earth itself, with comparable gravity and atmosphere. Cybertron also has two moons, each of similar composition. A third moon is believed to have existed at one point, but has disappeared from records. Cybertron’s capitol city is Iacon, located at its northern polar region and home to the Council Pavilions and many centers of culture.

Cybertronian Colony Worlds: Cybertron currently has three major colony worlds (Velocitron, Animatros, and Nebulos) and numerous outposts. The colony worlds, under the Cybertron Colonial Charter, are given authority to establish their own governments, and are expected to manage their own affairs. Cybertron cannot force a colony world to follow a specific policy.

Velocitron determines its leaders based on their capabilities in high-speed, nonviolent competition. It is affectionately dubbed ‘Speed Planet’ by some. Among its more famous features are the planet-spanning racetracks and the Taros Wastelands, an immense desert. Its current leader is Override, an Autobot. Her council consists of Brakedown, an Autobot Sage, and Dirt Boss, a Decepticon Combat Officer.

Animatros, dubbed ‘Jungle Planet’ based on its large concentration of wildlife, is a young, highly geologically active world with high levels of tectonic activity. Travelers to this world are warned to be cautious around the planet’s many active volcanoes. Leaders are chosen based on their physical power. The current leader is Scourge, a Decepticon warrior, whose council consists of fellow Decepticon Brimstone and Autobot Snarl.

Nebulos was unique in that it was the only Cybertronian colony established on a world coexisting with an established civilization. Lord Zarak, leader of the Nebulans, is a valued ally of the Cybertron Council, and an active liaison between his people and the Cybertronian immigrants. Current leadership duties are held by a council consisting of Autobots and Decepticons, among them Autobot Cerebros. Contact has been lost for some time, however.

Cybertronian Conflicts: Cybertron has been engaged in several conflicts over the last few million years. The First Cybertronian War, commonly called the War of Independence, was fought between the native Cybertronians and their Quintesson masters. The war lasted several hundred thousand years and claimed many Cybertronian lives, but ended in defeat for the Quintessons.

The Second Cybertronian War, the War of Rebellion, took place roughly 3.8 million Earth years ago, and was fought mostly as a civil war among the Decepticons between two factions, one led by Megatron and another led by Decepticon general Jhiaxus. The Autobots provided support to Jhiaxus’s faction, while the Mini-Cons were forced to support Megatron’s. The war ended with the defeat of Megatron’s faction and Jhiaxus’s demise, leading to a splintered Decepticon regime and the Mini-Cons’ self-imposed exodus.

Numerous smaller conflicts have also taken place, including several limited invasions of Cybertron by other races and continued terrorist acts by Megatron’s faction. The current conflict, dubbed the Earth War by some, currently remains unknown to the Cybertronian public at large.

Cybertronian Melee Forms: Numerous styles of fighting have developed on Cybertron thanks to the many years of conflict. Currently practiced are the physical-based Crystalocution, the mental art of Circuit-Su, and the arcane and varied Metallikato. The current masters of Metallikato are the Autobot Landmine and the Decepticon Bludgeon. The current master of Crystalocution is Autobot Scavenger.

Cybertronian Starship Classes: Most Cybertronian starships are derived in design from Quintesson vessels, the source of many of their systems and technologies. Improvements have been made over the years, however, including the development of more advanced weapon systems and propulsion units. Older ships tend towards a blocky design, usually with a light-colored hull based on electrum. Newer vessels are more streamlined and curved, and tend towards either darker colors (as is with the Decepticon vessels) or light silver (as with the Autobots).

Shared Ship Designs (Older)
Explorer-class (Ark, Acheron)

Modern Ships
Autobot Valiant-class (Axalon)
Decepticon Scimitar-class (Nemesis)

Cybertronian Weapons: Cybertronian weapons tend to be divided into two classes; melee and artillery. Melee weapons are normally hand-held, close range weapons such as blades, fighting staffs, or ramming units, and may or may not draw from a secondary power reserve in order to increase their effectiveness or otherwise enhance them. Artillery is normally long-range weapons such as laser cannons, projectile-based guns, or high-energy laser cannons. Either may be enhanced through the Powerlinx process.

Stay tuned for Part Two.

Re: Transformers: Armada (Revisited)

And here's Part Two of the Glossary.

-

Decepticon: The second of three factions on Cybertron, the Decepticons are currently the most divided of the three major groups of Transformers. The most prevalent faction is led by Straxus, a political figure with little authority who functions at most like a figurehead; most of his policies are implemented by his advisors, Tankor and Obsidian. The second, more militant faction, is led by the power-hungry Megatron, and is regarded mostly as a terrorist faction. The Decepticons have a more war-like reputation than their Autobot brethren; this is an exaggeration, as many Decepticons are skilled scientists, economists, and artisans. The majority, however, are capable and cunning warriors, and the Decepticons tend to lead many of the Cybertronian military campaigns.

Earth: Third planet in the Sol system and 4.3 light years from Cybertron, Earth is the current battleground between the Autobots and Decepticons, as well as the planet where the Mini-Con pods were forced to land. The planet is inhabited, and considered by most Cybertronians to be ‘mostly harmless’. Earth has been visited in the past by Cybertronians, who have recently begun to monitor radio transmissions from the planet. Earth-based vehicle modes have become somewhat of a fashion statement on Cybertron, and many Cybertronians can’t help but admire the stubborn nobility of the human population. Humanity at large remains unaware of the existence of the Transformers, but some in the government of one of the planet’s leading nations, the United States of America, have been made aware of the Transformer presence on their world. A treaty between the United States government and the Autobots and Mini-Cons has been signed, allowing for the construction of a permanent base facility on Earth and cooperation between the respective groups. The treaty has recently been expanded to the nation of Colombia, and negotiations are planned with the nation of Egypt.

Energon: The primary fuel source for Cybertronians. Energon is found as a gas, solid, and liquid, and is found in high amounts on Cybertron and many of its outposts. Natural Energon tends to shift in colors; in its gaseous state and raw solid form, Energon is a bright yellow-green color, while certain varieties of purified, high-energy forms exist as either bright blue liquid or similarly-colored crystals. Properly processed Energon is normally colored red. Raw Energon can be damaging to Cybertronians if exposed to high quantities for long periods of time, and has explosive properties. Liquid Energon maintains its explosive capacity, but instead of damaging a Transformer tends to enhance their systems, in some cases reforming their entire physical structure. Artificial Energon can also be created through conversion of other natural resources, such as oil and electricity, though it is not quite as efficient as natural Energon.

Mini-Cons: The third faction of Transformers on Cybertron. Mini-Cons were developed for precision work by the Quintessons, and were made far smaller and more intricately than their Autobot and Decepticon brethren. Mini-Cons tend to be of varying personalities and traits, and in some cases gravitate towards others as their guides. They tend to be around human height, with the tallest of them measuring around 7 feet tall (2.14 meters). Many were destroyed during the Cybertronian wars, and due to the intricacy of their construction, few were made to replace them, making them the smallest faction in terms of numbers as well as size among the Transformers.

Powerlinx: Powerlinx technology, along with the capability to transform, was developed during the First Cybertronian War as a weapon against the Quintessons. Using a system of interlocking ports and mechanisms, two or more Transformers can interlink with one another, increasing overall power or performance. Primary Powerlinx processes feature an Autobot or Decepticon combining with a Mini-Con; the result is an increase in power, allowing for the activation of previously dormant systems. Secondary Powerlinx consists of two or more Transformers of similar size combining; this is best seen in the Mini-Con combiner Perceptor, and in the Powerlinx process between Optimus Prime and Jetfire. The system has recently been upgraded to allow for combinations between Transformers with similarly-designed locking mechanisms. Combinations of more than two Transformers in such a manner are rare, however, and are generally referred to as ‘gestalt Powerlinking’, with the combined form taking on attributes from its constituent parts.

Space Bridge: Traditionally a safe, dependable means of transport between worlds, Space Bridges are a cheap and fast alternative to space travel, allowing near-instantaneous transport between two worlds. However, Space Bridges require transport points at both ends, as well as energy sources to power them. They can also be sufficiently jammed or distorted due to strong gravitational forces. Space Bridges currently exist between Cybertron and its colonies and outposts.

Sparks: The life force of a Transformer, the Spark is roughly equivalent to the ‘soul’ in human religions. No Transformer is entirely certain where they come from, only that they exist and that they give each Transformer their individual personality. So long as they are contained within a vessel, sparks maintain their current identity; if removed without proper protective devices such as force fields, the sparks are essentially wiped clean. According to popular myth, sparks are all fragments of the spark of Primus, and they are transmitted through his artifacts or core components. While sparks have been confirmed to emerge from Vector Sigma and the Matrix of Leadership, no other known artifact has demonstrated such abilities.

TransWarp Drive: The primary means of faster-than-light travel for Cybertronian vessels. For short trips of less than a light-year, a ship’s sublight engines are boosted to their maximum output. Longer trips require the dangerous creation of artificial wormholes to form temporary rifts in the fabric of space and time. If programmed improperly, a ship may also travel through time and/or other dimensions in addition to space.

Vector Sigma: A vast supercomputer deep below Cybertron’s surface, Vector Sigma maintains Cybertron and stores vast amounts of information concerning the planet itself, its inhabitants, and its history. Popular myth holds that Vector Sigma is possibly the central core or even the spark core of Primus himself. These claims are unsubstantiated, but Vector Sigma is capable of giving life to Transformers and interfacing with another artifact with similar attributes, the Matrix of Leadership. Vector Prime is its current keeper.

Stay tuned for character profiles and accompanying cast photos.

Hunters seems to have the end of it missing. Shame, given I was absolutely LOVING what you were doing with the old Botcon comic. Once again, you take a situation created by previous TF writers and improve it in surprising ways. Loving it.

Hunters has the end missing? Crud; sorry about that.

I'll fix that immediately and correct the links.

EDIT: Problem solved and links corrected! I'll try to make certain this doesn't happen in the future.

Re: Transformers: Armada (Revisited)

Okay, I planned on putting up character profiles and links to the cast photos I have up at DA, but my first attempt did not go off successfully (too big an entry).
So, I'm going to try the Timeline for now, and put up character entries over the next week or so.

Timeline

~15,000,000,000 BCE: The Big Bang. The universe is created. Primus and Unicron are brought into existence shortly afterward, and go forth to explore. Unicron at some point grows dissatisfied with the state of creation, and begins acting towards destroying existence. Primus moves to counter him.

~10,000,000 BCE: The planet that would one day be called Cybertron is created by Primus as a physical body in what would eventually be called the Alpha Centauri system. Created from him are the first thirteen Transformers and the seven Artifacts. Primus charges them with preserving his physical body and aiding him in the battle against Unicron.

~9,500,000 BCE: Unicron approaches Cybertron. Iskaros Prime, second of the Thirteen, betrays his siblings, mortally wounding seven of his siblings before being cast away by Vector Prime. Unicron is driven away with a burst from the Matrix of Leadership.

Afterwards, one of the three moons orbiting Cybertron is converted into four starships by Primus’s power; Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, and Pangaea. Pangaea leaves on its own, commanded by Gaeus Prime. Atlantis, Mu and Lemuria leave in formation, commanded respectively by Methius Prime, Accellas Prime, and Draco Prime. The last of the Thirteen, Vector Prime, remains on Cybertron to safeguard the planet.

~ 9,000,000 BCE: Cybertron is discovered by the Quintessons and designated “Factory One”. The planet is found to be abundant in raw materials and energy resources, and is quickly settled by the race of techno-organic creatures.

Within time, the Quintessons use the raw materials on the planet to create three types of slave units. Heavy Labor, or Automated Robotic Units, are used primarily for heavy tasks by their masters such as construction and mining. Defensive Concept Units are constructed for use as entertainment in arenas and defense in times of war. Miniaturized Concept Units are developed for precision labor, often working alongside both Heavy Labor and Defensive machines.

8,900,000 BCE: Numerous catacombs are found deep within the planetoid, and numerous units are dispatched by the Quintessons to explore them. One unit, consisting of two Heavy Labor, two Defensive, and four Miniaturized Concept units locates a chamber deep beneath the planet’s surface. The eight are disabled, and communication is lost.

The eight are brought to a supercomputer known as Vector Sigma by Vector Prime, and are given life. They are told of the Light Bringer, Primus, the nature of the Allspark, and his eternal rival, Unicron, and are charged by the Guardian to rid their world of the Quintesson occupation forces and give life to their race.

One of the eight units, now designated Optimus Prime, is given the Matrix of Leadership and charged with leading the oncoming war.

A long period of capturing numerous units begins, each one being infused with life by Vector Sigma.

8,700,000 BCE: The First Cybertronian War, the War of Independence, begins. Optimus Prime leads a collected force of former labor and defense units against the Quintessons. Victories are scored in the districts of Iacon and the Border Regions.

The planet is rechristened Cybertron by the rebellion, which is classified into three groups; the former Automated Robotic units call themselves ‘Autobots’, the Defensive Concept units call themselves ‘Decepticons’, and the Miniaturized Concept units take on the name ‘Mini-Cons’.

The Quintessons initially hold numerous advantages, among them a massive force of combat drones known as the Sentinels. The slow-moving but extremely powerful Sentinels are defeated by innovations from Cybertronian scientists Red Alert, working under the Autobot banner, and Starscream of the Decepticons. The first is Transformation technology, which allows for a Cybertronian to convert from one form to another, allowing them greater speed, mobility, or firepower in an alternative form. The second is Powerlinx technology, which allows for numerous Transformers to combine with one another, boosting their powers and abilities to far beyond that of one unit alone. These two developments allow for most transformers to equal the Sentinels in combat, while a third development, the capture, giving of life and defection of the Supreme Sentinel unit, help to hinder the Quintessons.

During the conflict, numerous Cybertronians are captured and experimented upon by the Quintessons, and become infused with organic tissue. At least one is brought to Vector Sigma and healed by the Guardian, rendering them techno-organic.

6,700,000 BCE: The First Cybertronian War ends as the surviving Quintessons escape Cybertron, leaving behind large amounts of technology and resources. A general constitution of Cybertron is written, and development of new technologies based on reverse-engineering of leftover Quintesson tech begins.

The Golden Age of Cybertron begins.

An effort to repopulate the planet using Vector Sigma begins.

Numerous small Mini-Con settlements are established throughout the various districts.

Cybertronian sublight space vessels begin exploration of the Alpha Centauri System.

5,200,000 BCE: Megatron is given life in the Vector Sigma chamber.

4,000,000 BCE: The Outsider Wars take place as Cybertron is attacked by unknown invaders. Considerable damage is dealt to the planet, and the Golden Age officially ends.

The Quintessons attempt to attack Cybertron with the aid of a drone army, but the drone army rebels. Quintessa is all but destroyed as the drone force departs; an army of Scrapmetal drones remain behind, and most of the population is wiped out.

3,800,000 BCE: The Second Cybertronian War, also referred to as the Uprising, begins. Renegade Decepticons under Megatron’s command capture various Mini-Cons in an attempt to take control of Cybertron. The rebellion is swiftly put down, but Megatron and his forces elude capture. Decepticon leader Jhiaxus is killed in the conflict.

Fearful that such a thing could happen again, the Mini-Cons voluntarily choose to leave Cybertron onboard a refurbished Quintesson ship. Loaded onto the ship are an Omega Sentinel unit and the Omega Lock, one of the seven Artifacts of Primus. The ship, equipped with an experimental TransWarp drive, made it as far as the future Sol system before key systems on the ship malfunctioned due to sabotage. Outgoing communications were attempted, but none reached Cybertron due to outside interference. Numerous escape pods were jettisoned to the planet that would one day become Earth, as well as its moon. The ship itself crashes in Earth’s Pacific Ocean.

Megatron’s movement remains underground, but gains several members over time. Starscream and other Decepticons are assigned by the Decepticon political leader, Lord Straxus, to infiltrate the group and keep track of its actions.

3,000,000 BCE: A small Autobot Explorer vessel, the Acheron, carrying prisoners from Megatron’s forces to a Cybertronian penal colony receives damage en-route. The vessel is presumed lost after a lengthy search.

During the search, parts of Prehistoric Earth are charted by a unit of Autobots led by Skydive, an early veteran of the first Cybertronian War. The unit creates new alternative modes based on fossils scanned beneath the planet’s surface.

2,800,000 BCE: Scavenger begins instructing students at the Cybertron War Academy.

2,200,000 BCE: Space Bridge technology is developed.

100,000 BCE: A Cybertronian survey vessel near the edge of the galaxy detects an odd gravitational disturbance, as well as the disappearance of numerous planets within the same area. This phenomenon would repeat itself on numerous occasions.

12,000 BCE: A Cybertronian vessel makes first contact with a race known as Furlings. Negotiations are inconclusive.

1 CE: Established first year of the common Earth calendar.

1000 CE: Cybertronian colonies are established on Velocitron, Animatros, and Nebulos. Coalition governments are formed between Autobots and Decepticons, with majorities of one of either faction on Velocitron and Animatros respectively.

1700 CE: Hot Shot and Wheeljack are given life in the Vector Sigma Chamber.

1800 CE: Wheeljack, a student from the Cybertron War Academy, is presumed lost in an attack by Megatron’s forces. He is secretly saved by Megatron for undisclosed reasons.

Hot Shot attempts to retrieve him, but is stopped by Overcast on the orders of King Atlas. Overcast departs Cybertron shortly afterwards in disgust.

2005 CE: September 9. A Mini-Con stasis pod is located by a group of human students at Mt. Saint Hilary in Oregon, Earth. They set off the remote homing beacon, immediately drawing attention to Earth and revealing the location of the Mini-Cons. Both Optimus Prime and Megatron personally lead small contingents to Earth in an attempt to locate the lost Cybertronians.

Stay tuned, more to come.
