D23 Expo 2017

A lot of news came out of D23 this past weekend so I'm putting it all here.

A trailer for Infinity War was shown, and by all accounts it was epic, glorious and those that watched it wept with joy.

Full sized models of the "Children of Thanos" were revealed. You'll know them better as the Black Order; Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf.

The first look at Jon Favreau's Lion King remake also got a huge positive reaction. That one stars Donald Glover (Simba), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon) and John Oliver (Zazu)

A behind he scenes video for The Last Jedi was shown, but nothing on the troubled Han Solo project.

The cast of the Aladdin remake is Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott (the movie Pink Ranger) as Jasmine, and the unenviable task of following Robin Williams goes to Will Smith.

A full sized model of Tim Burton's Dumbo was rolled out, which was said to be "nightmare inducing". Sounds about right. Cast for that on includes Eva Green, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton and Colin Farrell.

Dwayne Johnson is working on a film for "Jungle Cruise" and a live-action Mulan is planned.

Pixar's plans include Coco (a film inspired by Día de los Muertos), Toy Story 4, Weck-it-Ralph 2, and an untitled project said to be similar to the Flinstones but with dragons, unicorns, elves, trolls and other fantasy characters instead of dinosaurs and cavemen.

The Incredibles 2 will pick up exactly where the first one left off, with the family donning their masks to take on the Underminer.

Ducktales premiere's August 12th with a movie and the series premieres on Sept. 23rd.

A 50 foot scale model of the new Star Wars land was revealed, the official name being Star Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Set to open in Florida in 2019. There will be characters roaming around like BB8 and Chewie and bounty hunters may hunt visitors. There will be a cantina serving blue milk and a themed hotel.

Also in Florida, a new Mickey Mouse ride (the first ride actually themed after the Mouse), Guardians and Ratatouile rides at Epcot and Tron at the Magic Kingdom. Toy Story Land will open next year.

In Cali, Paradise Pier becomes Pixar Pier and the Avengers and Spidey will join the Guaridians attraction.

Don't much care for Rogan, but his scratchy voice does kind of fit.

Okay, I'm not super-great when it comes to ethnicity, but is Miss Scott perhaps of Arabian descent, and I'm not seeing it? I mean, there aren't any Middle Eastern actresses they could get? And as for Will Smith...I like the guy, but he's more smarm-n-charm than the bombastic genie we're used to. Then again, I can't think of anyone in particular that'd come close, so...

Yeah...was he their first choice? Did someone maybe say "LeVar Burton" while chewing a steak and someone else heard "Tim Burton instead?

A little unsure about this. I mean, it's gonna be odd enough with a sequel after so long, but to pick up immediately as the basis of the film? I'd have thought maybe more of a time jump.

I could be wrong, but I think it has everything to do with not wanting to age up Jack-Jack.

Wikipedia says...."Scott was born in London, England. Her mother, Usha Joshi, is of Gujarati Indian descent from Uganda. Scott's father, Christopher Scott, is British."

I can see that in her face, and she is a bit olive skinned. You can't always tell though, some people who were born to interracial parents take strongly after one or the other, even though hair/skin/eye pigmentation is determined by a number of co-dependent alleles. Here in Maryland, former NAACP president Ben Jealous has put in a bid to run against Governor Hogan next year. Jealous' father was white, and if you didn't know he was half black you'd probably never guess.
